The first thing to understand about Santa Clauses is that they are about as predictable as... I dunno something not very predictable. Brain is functioning at a lower capacity than normal today, which isnt saying much.

Vancouver and Portland are fine, usually you aren't allowed to play Seattle within a couple months, but as has been stated that has been debunked considering TV on the Radio played Seattle a week before or so with Dirty Projectors in 09 and such. So anyones guess is up for grabs. I just hope M83 still plays, but who knows.

"The conversation then turned to "Santa Clauses", lines in festival contracts that prohibit artists from performing within a certain mile radius within a time period before and after the festival. Capps stated it helps to "ensure 10-15 of my artists aren't playing another festival down the street the same weekend." Both organizers said the distance clause was a loose rule rather than a hard and fast one and it was always negotiable. Said Capps, "We always want our festival to have a unique character but we don't arbitrarily eliminate. There are no rules."

I know this is in regards to Bonnaroo and Bumbershoot, but since every festival is every festival I would just go by this.

This begs another question though; how many Sasquatch attendees are actually from Seattle? Without throwing out any made up numbers, an overwhelming amount of people I meet every year arent from Seattle or the surrounding burbs. If you are going to restrict acts from playing shows in cities your attendees are from, you'd probably have to do better than just Seattle to make a huge impact.

I wonder how closely Livenation follows or cares about what areas purchase what percentage of the tickets.

There is no reason to speculate anything beyond the above.

Mystery solved

I'm getting so damn irritable about the secrecy of 2012. At least change the logo on the website? I'm breaking down. So dark. Barren. Quiet. *coughs*

The next time I see a discussion about how Santa Clauses work I'm deleting all the posts. You are all officially on notice.

Half that, half "I like to warn people before I start deleting their posts." I obviously made an exception for you and Pea but that was funny. Otherwise, take the short rumors thread -- I told everyone I'd delete non-essential posts there and I have been. And we've all been cool about it.
