Granted, that doesn't sound TOO far from what I'd expect from him.

Sasquatch 2008, Saturday: Fleet Foxes open the main stage. A few hours later, I am impatiently waiting for The National to begin playing. Rainn Wilson comes on stage and informs us that they had bus problems and would be arriving later. He does some goofy thing about, I don't know, looking up "foxes" on Wikipedia using his Blackberry, and reading the entry to us, because Fleet Foxes would be playing a second set. I don't know, I was pissed. On the plus side, I got to see Fleet Foxes!

I didn't think his intro was bad. Wasn't he only known for the Office then, and he's not really a comedian on that show, he's just an awkward weirdo, right (only seen it like five times)? He was pretty much in character.

I don't recall the National watching impatiently from the side of the stage. I don't recall seeing them at all. I got the feeling dude was hung out to dry, so he extended the intro painfully long waiting for the band. I wasn't up against the rail though, so they could have been waiting for him to finish where I couldn't see them.

They were definitely there waiting for at least half the time, my friends and I were really confused by it. Maybe he didn't know they were there but it was still painful to watch

I actively don't want this to happen because I'm not going to be there, and Sasquatch has a bad habit of not doing the obvious awesome thing anyway:

- Grizzly Bear and Girl Talk on the same day in '09 did not result in live mash-up thing they did at Pitchfork
- Ezra Koenig did not show up at The Very Best's set
- He also did not stick around to play saxophone for the Dirty Projectors which wikipedia says he did at least once
- Did Jaguar Love and Past Lives do anything last year? I don't give a shit about anyone involved, but my point stands.
- Michael Stipe and Cedric The Entertainer didn't have a rap battle
- Bjork did not replace Regine Chaussagne in the Arcade Fire's lineup in 2007 (debatable, as this may have happened at this or any other performance by arcade fire)
- 2006: TV On The Radio did not launch Wolfmother in a rocketship to outer space

Is it really up to the festival organizers to plan collaborations? How do they even know Ezra Koenig didn't sleep with the tour manager of the Very Bests girlfriend, and is no longer allowed anywhere near the band? Plus, if Sasquatch was going to tell Ezra that he needs to do anything other than stroll off his bus, sing 11 songs, and get back on the bus, wouldn't that bring an additional appearance fee into the equation? When do these guys even have time to practice their collaboration?

I haven't watched the Grizzly Bear/Girl Talk collab in a really long time, and only saw it once, but wasn't the Grizzly Bear dude lip syncing so painfully obvious that it was hilarious to watch? That's just what I recalled, "oh, you're going to make a guest appearance to sing a short line from your hit song, yet it doesn't make any difference if you are there or not, since your voice is already part of Girl talk pressing play, and no one there to see Girl Talk even knows what you look like IRL anyway?

I always thought it was strictly up to the artists to organize collaborations, like when the trumpet player from the Magnetic Nutsacks played with Broken Social Scene last year. BSS always has guests collab with them, just because that's what they do. I heard the BSS horn section played with the National, although I wasn't there, so I don't know.

I really wonder how the whole collaboration/surpise thing works too? Seems pretty regular at Bonnaroo. Just on the past 2 that I attended (08' and 09) there was Kirk Hammet with MMJ, Springsteen with Phish, Lead singer of Chairlift sang 'Til Tuesday's "Voices Carry" with MGMT, Nas came out with the Beasties, Snoop and Erykah, Jimmy Buffet played a surprise set at 12 in the afternoon, Tegan and Sara joined Tiesto, Elvis Costello joined Jenny Lewis, Vedder and Jack Johnson did something apparently, Zach Galafinakis came out for MMJ's encore and there are probably others I am forgetting or didn't see.

Not trying to make a Bonnaroo vs. Sasquatch pissing contest, just wonder why it's so prevelant at other fests?

Bonnaroo is different, they book collaborations, so it's clear they find them important. Maybe they are providing financial incentives for these unlisted collaborations, or maybe it's just a case of "when in Rome," where everyone does it just because everyone does it. I don't recall any collabs at Lollapalooza, and very few at Coachella. ACL had a couple cool ones. Attendence might factor into this as well, the bigger the names, the bigger the collaborations.

Last time I rely on another's recollection. Yes, I wrote in the Sasquatch review last year that it was the National's (and Edward Sharpe) brass playing with BSS.

Oh man, that would be awesome in there were Postal Services at Squatch! I could send letters to all of my friends saying things like: "Oh hey! You'll never guess what I found at Sasquatch... POSTAL SERVICES!"
