As most of the regular boarders know, Peatrick and I went and saw Chromeo this week. It was a really fun time, and I would urge everyone to see them at Sasquatch, even if it is a midday mainstage slot.
Chromeo will never claim to be a deep band. There isn't a lot to a Chromeo track. They sing silly pop songs with an 80's feel, but there is less irony than you would think in one of their sets. It's not a joke to them. They love their sound and what they're doing, and it comes through in their performance.
The show started with the crowd chanting "Chromeo-ooooh-oooh" ad-infinitum until the duo hit the stage. They immediately started with "Don't turn the lights on". The first single from their most recent release Business Casual. The crowd was obviously into it, dancing and singing along throughout the set. They played a ton of tracks in what seemed to be a very short set. During their final track before the encore, a large amount of silver confetti fell from the rafters. The crowd religiously following along with Dave 1 to the title track from their first full length album Fancy Footwork. An hour and 20 minutes felt like 20 minutes, but they managed to cram 18 songs in.
Anyways, this feels long winded. Below is the setlist from the show. I couldn't find any decent videos from the show we attended, but I've thrown in a live youtube clip of their track Fancy Footwork. I know this stuff isn't everyone's bag, but here's a little intro for those that are interested.

That video seems weird because it's so bright in that tent.. which is how I imagine it will be as Sasquatch.. But I like it. I'll probably be there.

I've got a mildly entertaining story about my Chromeo introduction:
It was a Saturday night and my friends invited me to this place I've never heard of in an industrial area I wasn't familiar with. I had a general idea of the cross streets, but as I got closer, I saw a lot of well dressed people (mostly women) generally walking the same direction, so I just followed them. When we got to the entrance of some really old warehouse type building with no sign, people were literally coming from four different directions. There was a line of about twenty people waiting to get in.
One of my friends was already time-traveling, so he left shortly after I got there. The other friend and I were drinking Sparks (yeah, that orange soda alcoholic energy drink, back when it still had caffeine in it), while some DJ was spinning. We went out to the smokers porch, which was a giant deck on the top level overlooking a bunch of trees. It felt like we were 50 feet off the ground, and I say that because the wood was old, the deck looked like it could safely hold twenty people without breaking, and there were 150 people crammed on it.
After a couple more Sparks, my remaining friend was wasted, and recommended we leave. So we closed out our tabs right when Chromeo took the stage. My buddy said, "come on, let's get out of here," but I told him I wanted to check out a song or two first. About 60 seconds later, he's puking in the trash can. I'm not sure anyone even noticed, I pretended not to.
He went for the puke and rally, because five minutes later, he yells, "these guys are awesome!" We were raging on the dance floor for the rest of their set. I don't think I've ever danced with more women in one night, we were like the only two guys dancing, and this went on until after 3 a.m. (there was another DJ on after Chromeo).
A couple months later, I'm shopping for CDs at Everyday Music, wandering through the aisles looking at everything labeled, "New Release." I didn't remember the name "Chromeo" from the show, but recalled their name sounding similar to "Romeo." When I entered the electronic section, their CD was one of the first new releases I saw. I recognize them immediately, but the cover also made me laugh out loud.
I played it for my puking friend a couple weeks later, "remember that band in that weird bar where you puked in the trash can?" Chromeo is one of his favorite bands now. His "our song" with his current girlfriend is a Chromeo chune.

Emptyfox and some other friends took me to a Chromeo show on my birthday during the summer and it's been a love affair ever since. I dismissed them after watching about 5 minutes of their DJ set at Sas '09 but this year will be completely different. Get ready for 2011 version of last year's mid-day Passion Pit dance party. These guys are the fucking best!

I've gotta say though, the one thing that first video empty posted was missing is a legitimate Chromeo intro. I don't think I've ever been to a show where an introduction gets the crowd as pumped up and excited as their's does. I get chills even seeing videos of it. Just watch 
I love this part of Pitchfork's review of the album that intro came from because it really does sum it up perfectly:
"More lovable is their "Intro", where over some tinnily epic synths the two Chromeos get a girl to chant their name, over and over, the three syllables ascending like stadium entrance music. This is surely what they come out to when they play live. And though it may hype a crowd it's obvious it's there for them too."

Yes! Chromeo is great live. Their music is relatively simple and they know it; they aren't pretending to be something they're not. It's really lively, though, and I can't help but want to dance when it comes on. You can tell they really love performing their music and they are great showmen so their gigs are always a lot of fun. You summed it up well, foxy.
One of their strangest songs is "Mamma's Boy" but it's also one of their favorite songs to play live. I think they include it on every set list. It is a little slow at times and the lyrics are a bit odd, but they play it with such enthusiasm it has become one of my favorite songs of theirs. Anyone who has seen them perform knows what I'm talking about. When that keyboard intro hits at Sasquatch the crowd will go crazy. You just wait! I'm not at all enthused about their time slot, but I do recommend everyone checking it out. Even though it's during the day it will still be a lot of fun!
