In other news, the back of the new main stage and the whole not getting to see through it part was unfortunate.

Yeah, that was a little saddening.

It was definitely amazing. I can't wait to see what kind of shenanigans show up on YouTube.

I was actually pretty damn disappointed with Pavement. They kept fucking up and Malkmus had a very bad attitude IMO. That being said I did leave early so maybe it got better after I left.

Yeah, the whole back of stage thing didn't bother me too much because I was far enough back that I still got to enjoy the view. But I can see how that might have sucked for those who were actually close to the stage and couldn't see the amazing backdrop.

I Dr. Garbanzoured people would feel that way. I don't think Stephen Malkmus is the kind of guy to lose his shit and talk about how awesome the audience is and stuff though. I found it all very "Pavement" if that makes sense.

Every year I've attended there was a band that just blew me away with how shitty their performance was. in '08 it was Mars Volta, last year it was Animal Collective, and this year the crown goes to Pavement. It makes me angry that they wasted a co-headlining spot on that band when LCD would have been such a better fit.
Other than them dropping the ball on Sunday night's lineup, this year was by far the best out of the three I've gone, it's not even close. It was a genius move to have somewhat lesser known bands headline, and then using the money saved to stuff the rest of the lineup with amazing upper-middle tier bands. There wasn't a time all weekend when I got bored with a lack of bands I wanted to see. This was a big change from last year when I didn't show up until 4pm a couple of the days.
Regarding the mainstage change, it definitely provided for much better light shows, but overall I think its a negative change since it takes away a chunk from the incredible view that makes the Gorge the best outdoor venue in the country. I would imagine they closed the stage off after bands complained about the heat/rain/wind in years past.

did anyone else that lives in western washington find it somewhat depressing that the weather gradually changed from nice to shit the closer you got to home? i enjoyed the nice 4 day break from the dreary gray skies of the seattle area.

Pretty much completely depressing, yeah. I did my best to soak in the sun when we stopped in Ellensburg, but it was still a cruel change. So glad the weather was mostly decent over the weekend.
I too had a rad, rad time. Passion Pit's dance party set was a total highlight for me!
