Clem Snide is based in Nashville. Its deconstructed country music which replaces the slide guitar with a cello.

Before people started multi-hyphenating genres, Clem Snide belonged to the same school of alt-country that Wilco used to fall under.

I also recommend the album Braver, Newer World by Jimmy Dale Gilmore. You may recognize Gilmore from The Big Lebowski (he played Smoky -- 'OVER THE LINE!'). He's got a beautiful tenor, and that particular album was produced by Jon Brion (I Heart Huckabees, P.T. Anderson films).

Very good. You're obviously far superior to me in terms of music knowledge. I just take the cream off the top where as you churn that shit to butter. Thanks for the knowledge.

A couple other names I'll throw out there are Dwight Yoakam and Old Crow Medicine Show...

I take my shit pretty seriously.

If you haven't come across it yet, I wrote several lengthy emotional/intellectual explications of some of my favorite records in the A Record a Day thread winter before last:

http://sasquatchfest.proboards.com/index....lay&thread=1248

I know I plug that shit at every opportunity, but I'm damn proud of a lot of those pieces. I can't help it. There's a piece of Clem Snide on page four.

Are you into blues? You ever heard of a DJ in Arcata, CA known as Good Rockin' Derral (not there any more; moved back to Anderson, CA to help my more than able 96 year old grandmama.) That's my uncle. You're enthusiasm for music reminds me of him. Good shit!

My knowledge of blues music is patchy, admittedly. I always hate to admit gaps in my education, but you found one right away. Still, that's cool. The part of California I'm from, there were no DJs whose names were worth remembering.

Dude, Jimmy Dale Gilmore? You're the only other person other than my dad whose knows this name. That man is so sweet.

Have you ever heard of the first band he was in, The Flatlanders? Good stuff too.

I've read about the Flatlanders but I've never picked up one of their albums. I picked up Braver, Newer World when I was on a deeply obsessive Jon Brion kick and was surprised when I fell in love with it so much. I kind of had a second honeymoon with it a month or so ago and started reading up more extensively on his career but I hadn't followed up on it yet.

I like how this thread turned from a search for camping buddies to a discussion about country. Anyways i lied, I like the Charlies Daniels band. But just because he absolutely rails on the fiddle.

Well thank you for the welcome Fox. But I was trying to find some people to camp with, then BAM everyone was just discussing country. The original topic for the thread was lost.
