 Camping beside friends
« Thread Started on May 16, 2011, 12:32pm »

Hey guys,

Does anyone know what the deal is with assigning camping spots in the general campground? I heard that when you arrive, you drive in single file, and you are assigned a camping spot next to the person who is ahead of you in line. My friends and I are wanting to camp next to each other, so we are wondering if anyone can suggest the best way for us to accomplish this?

Also, I hear if you're from Canada, cell phone reception does not exist! How shitty is this?

Thanks a bunch!

The best way to ensure you camp with friends is to meet up a few miles away from the Gorge and drive in together. The only other option is to try to space your car out as far as you can, and then rearrange them later as more people arrive. Cell phone reception is spotty at best.

You're in the middle of a secluded gorge. Its not just canadians, its also Californians, Texans, and New Yorkers. In fact, its everyone. You're there for a festival. I enjoyed not having to worry about my phone all weekend. If you're wanting to meet up with friends, get some walkie-talkies or something. Or just plan beforehand.

Thanks so much! Any suggestions where we should meet up outside of the gorge? We've never been, so we don't know the area very well. We're coming north from Vancouver

I am heading down from Vancouver as well. We all usually meet at the big grocery store in Ellensburg. There is also a liquor store beside it.

There is a small town right outside the gorge called Quincy, maybe meet there? Also I read there is an area to wait to meet up with people this year at the campgrounds, but it said you could only be there for half an hour.

Some people get cell reception, some people don't. I wouldn't count on it.

That's such a good idea.... There are so many people i know that will be going, and I have a feeling leaving it up to chance to actually run in to them is a bit unrealistic, so the fact that we don't get cell reception and I can't message them to meet up. Anybody have any past experiences with organizing with friends to meet up? I was told that one of the best things to do is tie balloons and shit onto your vehicles and just tell your friends to look for the balloons to find you.

make note of which honeybucket station you're near and use that as a landmark. Find out approximately what time they're showing up and try to be at the gate at that time. Or simply tell them days ahead of time that you're going to meet them at the general store at blah blah time on blah blah day, then make sure you're there.

The best place to meet someone outside of the campground is the gas station at George. It is right at one of the exits on I-90. Then you just drive the roads from there straight into the Gorge.
