I want to hit the Gorge on Thursday, but I don't want to get there late or have to leave Calgary wicked early. Anyone familiar with any good camp spots along the way to spend Wednesday night? Anyone else want to join?

Gotta be somewhere in that Bonner's Ferry/Sandpoint area.
Speaking of which, don't speed as you come down the hill into Bonner's Ferry. Heed my advice, son.

Point taken. Good thing I also have a radar detector.

There are a couple decent campgrounds in Vantage, which is right outside of of the Gorge.

I'm slumming it in Sandpoint on my way down, Super-8 style. I think the room was $35 or something on priceline, not quite as cheap as camping but close, and this way I don't have to set my tent up in the dark.

The downside to what I'm doing is my hotel room is pre-paid and non-refundable / cancellable. so If I change my plans I'm out the $35, but my plans are solid at this point, and worst case $35 isn't the end of the world. If you need flexibility or would rather camp, this isn't a good idea.

You should just join my caravan! We'll probably leave Edmonton like 11 at night on Wednesday, so we'll be in Calgary by like 2:30ish? Gorge by noon?

Yeaaaaaaah no. I have no desire to drive overnight and sleep all day at the Gorge. And as someone who drives for a living let me tell you that driving long highway distances on sleep deprivation is more dangerous than driving drunk. Plus I enjoy the scenery during the daytime.
Thanks for the offer though!

we left at about 7pm last year from Edmonton and were there with about 45 min to spare before the gates opened. That was with a few stops (cops, walmart, various washroom breaks, border, etc)

The best place hands down to stay is in Yahk. It is just a couple of minutes from the American boarder at the very end of Crowsnest Pass, and looks like a holiday resort from Twin Peaks. We stayed in these amazing trailers converted into hotel rooms last year at this place called Moon River Lodge. It is right on the river with a huge sunk in fire pit and a friendly staff. There is also a nature reserve right by, as well as a totally decrepit once upon a time cheesy tourist ice cream/antique shop with goats on the roof.
All of us Alberta Boarders should meet and stay here if you are planning to do the Gorge trip in two days.
Here is deh pics.

That looks pretty stellar, do you remember what the rates were? I was planning on getting a couple rooms at a motel in Canmore, but I feel like this might be a much better idea.

I believe it was $75 for a room with two beds and a futon. We had seven of us stay in one trailer.

I stayed at Potholes State Park when I did the same thing a few years ago- It's close to Moses Lake, which is also the best place to stock up before hitting the Gorge if you are coming from Canada- It is however past spokane, but a quick 1 hour jaunt to the venue, and it's really beautiful out there.

I'll only stay there if you promise there will be a goat on the roof. Otherwise you can fuck right off with your shenannigans.
