This will be my first time at Sasquatch and first time in the Pacific Northwest - I'm making a trip out of the whole thing and flying into Portland, spending a few days, heading to Ellensburg and driving to Seattle after. There appears to be a few different ways to get to Ellensburg from Portland, one is to take US-5N past Mt St. Helens and take US-12E or to take I-84 E and 97 N.
I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations, I thought it might be cool to see Mt. St. Helens but didn't know if it's tricky driving through the mountains. If anyone has any recommendations or fun places to stop on the way to make the drive more interesting I would greatly appreciate it!

Drive on as many scenic highways in this state as you can, they are all gorgeous (see what I did there?). Mt. St. Helens is alright, but it can get kinda cloudy and not-so visible out there.

We always take the 84 to 97 route and I highly recommend it. It is breathtakingly beautiful along the Columbia River gorge.

Well if you have time you could stop at Multnomah Falls or the Bridge of the Gods. That whole area is really lovely and there are parks along the way.

take US12e its beautiful. i live just 15 minutes from mt st helens and its an absloute must see!it will take you an extra hour but it will be well worth it and going over white pass is breathtaking its give you more scenery than just driving through the gorge on I-84

It is rad that we live in such a beautiful place that it is hard to choose which part of it to see.

YOU COULD ALSO FOLLOW THE COLUMBIA RIVER ALL THE WAY. IT'S LONGER BUT NO PASSES (EXCEPT FOR A COUPLE HILLS TO TAKE THE CUTOFF THROUGH PROSSER/SUNNYSIDE).
