25 song mixtape
What do you put on it?
GO!
(Also, pretend cassettes are still a thing. Because they are just more fun. And you cannot skip tracks. PRESSURE!)

Gotta put some Tom Petty on that ish. "Running Down a Dream" is my choice.

That's the truth. I always make sure I have his greatest hits with me when on a road trip. So good for driving in the daytime with the windows open and the sun beating down!
As for nighttime driving, I really like to listen to DCFC's Transatlanticism. "Title and Registration", the title track, and "Passenger Seat" to name a few.

I really don't like the Ting Ting's anymore, but the first time I heard 'Shut up and Let Me Go' I had some kind of roadtrip montage in my head, and it's been my official roadtrip song ever since. It's catchy as fuck, and it gets me in the driving mood.

The number one best song to start out a road trip mix with is............
Boston's More than a Feelin'.

I agree with the above statement, but also feel that Journey - "Don't Stop Believin'" would work just as well.

Oh jesus.. I worked 3 hours of overtime today, and while we were finishing up, that song came on the radio. Everyone was so tired that it turned into a workplace sing along. I'm not even embarrassed. It was awesome.

Windows down...cool breeze in your face...friends in the car...hands banging against the top of the car to the beat...heads bobbing up and down...everyone singing along in unison....

Also, there are classic chunes that share the "highway" theme, like AC/DC's "Highway to Hell", or Kenny Loggins' "Danger Zone", or, dare I say, "Life Is a Highway" by Canada's own Tom Cochcrane.

Souly--"That's Not my Name" was in my head for--no joke--a good whole month. It was awful because I had to dance, too.

Learned last Sasquatch that "Oh! Sweet Nuthin'" by Velvet Underground is a good song for the drive between Seattle and the Gorge.
