Back in my day you had to walk barefoot in the snow uphill both ways to get tickets and you liked it.

I actually liked it.

There was a big dust-up about it when Springsteen toured a couple years ago; Ticketassmaster itself listed tickets to several shows on that tour on StubHub that hadn't even been sold yet. That's so fucking shady.

And then against all reason, at the beginning of 2010 the Justice Department approved the merger between Ticketmaster and LiveNation. Now think about this: why would Coachella AND Sasquatch both sell out in one week? Just based on ticket sales to these festivals in ALL previous years, how is that even possible? Put the two pieces together: Ticketmaster buying up its own tickets and selling them at scalper prices. A merger occurring roughly a year ago, with roughly a year to plan the assault on the following year's music festival seaon. There's still ticket limits on these things; how many fucking scalpers are there? Enough to buy 60,000 Coachella tickets? Fuck, of course not.

THOSE TICKETS WERE NEVER EVEN ON THE MARKET. TICKETMASTER STILL HAS THEM AND IS SELLING THEM SECOND MARKET.

HGs right on track:

http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/01/d....-nation-merger/

Livenation and ticketmaster are really one in the same but they don't own Stubhub. They do own ticketweb though. Stubhub just makes it easy for anyone, I mean anyone, to sell tickets to a third party without meeting them. Stubhub just gets a cut from the seller (15%) and the buyer (10%) for just being a middle man. I know this because I've sold some of my sport season tickets on the site (no more than face) when I couldn't give them to my friends. That said, it doesn't mean they don't have any inside track on tickets or some sort of hacking software. Which is what happened in LCD gate... hackers got into ticketmaster and didn't allow anyone to get tickets. I happened to get some tickets during the presale. Lucky me but a lot of fans got tickets but threw them back because they we're holding out better seats and got burned.

Can't wait to dress up like Don Johnson and dance my ass off to LCD in April. It makes up for my absence from Sasquatch this year.

I could also go on and on and on how ticketmaster sells their own tickets for 3-4 times the value and when they can't sell them they put them on their site for face and sell them. Ever notice how they say tickets become available all the time when tickets are sold out... well how in the hell does that happen. I have some legit ideas but I also have some illegal ones, too that could be legal but are definitely unethical.

Ok... sorry about rambling about this.

It always pisses me off whenever something is sold out and Ticketmaster just says "Sorry we couldn't find anything, but tickets still may be available!" JUST SAY THE FUCKING SHOW IS SOLD OUT!

I seem to recall a TicketMaster exec being quoted as saying that all tickets should be sold on an auction-style system. The idea being, of course, that the most hardcore fans will gladly shell out for the seats that they really want.

And this is progress, of course, because having more cash certainly denotes a greater level of dedication than merely sitting in a line for days.

TicketMaster is like a daycare run by someone who loathes children.
