I feel like throwing up in my mouth for even saying this, but I'm almost certain that Coachella will trump Sasquatch next year if it comes down to me only being able to afford one. It's THAT good.

I think they are taking a step back towards their weirdness with their new material. Avey was singing most of it, which is fine with me. As much as I like Panda Bear, all my favorite AC songs are with Avey singing. And yeah, it was great.
Avey addressed the crowd at one poing saying something along the lines of, "Thank you, we are here to bring the weird." Panda Bear has been working on his drum skills; from where I was standing, he looked like an actual live drummer, instead of a guy randomly banging a bass drum or high hat on selected songs. Deakin did a pretty sweet Angus Young one legged stage hop. As usual, the recognizable songs they did play were slightly different versions from the album.

Fuck yeeeaaaahhh that is what I am talking about. I've always suspected that a lot of the weirdness came from Deakin; the Q&A after the screening of ODDSAC I saw kind of confirmed that. I think that many aspects of that film were Deakin's baby -- I certainly got that feeling listening to him talk about it. I was definitely hoping for some more of their old-timey freak-outs to show up on the next album now that Deakin is back. And I love that with Animal Collective, taking two steps back from the things that brought them success seems like the logical next step instead of the kind of fuck you it was when MGMT did it.

Avey singing is the best thing. And Animal Collective going back to their weirdness is even better.

Their sound is so polished these days, they would have to go back to some serious minimalistic shit in order to match their pre Feels weirdness. The new songs felt more like Strawberry Jam/Feels type songs than MPP, so don't think I'm saying it was 2003 type weird. One of the new chunes however had a really catchy beat, so they should still have a couple "hits." Re-reading this paragraph has made me realize how vague my statement is.
It was very evident the visuals on the monitors was 100% Animal Collective. They have a very seventh grade art class psychedelia feel to their visual art, which I can't say I'm too fond of. Hey, I like their music, but some of that visual shit is pretty lame.
Having put so much work into the visual aspect of the show means their brief tour should keep extending. Their new album isn't coming out anytime soon, and they are on tour, so it's not like they are going to save their visuals for a proper record release tour next year. For this reason, as well as a couple others, I'm going out on a limb and predicting Animal Collective in Pioneer Square for MFNW 2011.

Woh there camper, easy now. Coachella is different than Sasquatch, that is obvious, but they each have their strengths and weaknesses. I'm not going to compare the two yet, because Sasquatch 2011 has yet to occur. By all accounts, Coachella 2011 was run much better than Coachella 2010. There is no reason to think Sasquatch 2011 won't be run much better than Sasquatch 2010.
People have been complaining about the lack of wow factor with Sasquatch's big ten year anniversary, but we haven't been there yet. Pea would probably agree with me in this statement, I didn't realize how great a festival could be run until I got to Coachella. I could give you 15 ideas that would make Sasquatch 2011 a much better festival, when last week I could name only four or five.
Also, Coachella appeals to the EDM crowd. They basically have three stages devoted to EDM. Many of my camping neighbors only hit the main stage or outdoor stage once or twice, and that was only because the Chemical Brothers played the main stage. If you are an EMD kid, this is definitely the festival for you.

Coachella may be my fest of choice next year if only because it's way cheaper for me. It's a 3 hour drive vs. a $250 flight. I'm also graduating a few weeks after and I'm going to need all the money I can get. :/
I think I will buy both tickets and make my decision about which I would rather go to after the lineups are released and sell the other. I do kind of feel like a traitor to Sasquatch, though and I've only been there once.
