A good Sasquatch thread reference for Hoyt would be Harry Nilsson from Gramma's wonderful A Record a Day. The two men mirror each other so precisely at times it's scary. Their perfect voices and third ear for songwriting suggest that perhaps an alien split in two with one body landing in the pop world and another in the country world.
EDIT: Forgot to mention they both wrote hits for Three Dog Night!

I've been outta the headbanger loop for a long long long time, but went to a Helmet (yeah Helmet, I know!) show not too long ago and these guys opened for them. I was with my best friend, who now lives abroad, and we were celebrating his engagement so emotions were running high to begin with, but these guys were fantastic! I'm going to spit the truth out at you here and say for a long time now the few times I've heard/seen metal it has been with more than a little bit of a nostalgic side show delight (though I recognize their musical prowness), but these guys cut through the nostalgic delight, or at least I think they did. I was drunk on a case of "best friend" and drunk on pints of beer that only seemed to amplify the wonderfulness of the whole situation to the point where I could have been content to only have seen the sound check and gone home happy. So, Bison B.C, what do you think? And, uh, thanks if you make it through this dribble.
I can't fully hold best friend/alcohol intoxication at fault here, as I clearly had the wherewithal to know that Helmet should've definitely unplugged their guitars and gone to bed. Really, maybe they have merit, maybe, The Crow soundtrack was a long time ago people! I can't be expected to know the ins and outs of all my bad decisions. But on a related unrelated note, The Crow! A GOOD FUN movie you should thoroughly enjoy but NEVER take too seriously. I mean NEVER! Taking the Crow too seriously can lead to a decade long regret full of buckled black pants and part time jobs. This happens everyday! |
| Nope haven't heard of them, I'll give em a listen though.

I've never actually heard of them, though I've been out of the metal loop for a few years now. I'll check 'em out!

Also, found some Explosions in the Sky fans in one of the other threads; couple other instrumental bands for them- -65daysofstatic(played Sasquatch! '08. They killed.) -Lite -Crime in Choir(feat. Zach Hill)
Any other suggestions in this realm are appreciated as well.

Zach Hill is a madman.
His record with Rob Crow as The Ladies is fantastic:
One of the most inventive drummers out there. He plays the drums like a lead instrument, like Keith Moon did. It's damn impressive, even if it sounds like a giant bag of crack cocaine is holding the sticks instead of a person.

So far I have really liked the smith westerns, ducktails, and puro instinct albums.
On the other hand I wasn't too fond of the new decemberists album at all. That wire album is also not very good either

And if you didn't get a chance to listen to the tape last year, I behoove you to listen to Clive Tanaka y su orquestra's Jet Set Siempre. It's electronic goodness with one side being for dance and the other for romance! It just came out for dig download and sounds even better! Simply stunning!

I thought the smith westerns was okay - I think it's a grower. I thought the Decemberists album is up and down, but still doesn't match their earliest stuff. And I actually dug the new Wire album.
