On the topic of lil Wayne - did anyone listen to the mixtape he released just before The Carter IV dropped? - "Sorry for the Wait" ? SO GOOD! Lyrically he's as quick and stylish as ever.
See, I thought that mixtape sucked too. What are you guys listening to? Go back and listen to Dedication 2, or Drought 3 - how can you think this stuff is just as good?
I agree with you on Da Drought 3. Fucking Epic, and I loved No Celilings. I'm surprised you didn't like Sorry for the wait. I thought it was awesome. "Rollin", "Gucci Gucci", "chunechi's Back", "Marvin's Room", and "Run The World" - all solid.

The only rhymes I've thought were good in his post-jail material were some of the post-jail referencing lines, like the great one from 6'7' - "I got through that sentence like a subject and a predicate"
Since you both pointed out how much you dislike Das Racist earlier, is it clever lyrics you dislike?
You misremember, sir. I'm a Das Racist defender on this board, one of the few.
I love clever lyrics, but Carter IV doesn't have many. I've listened to every Lil Wayne mixtape (and there are, like, 40) multiple times, and I could rap battle in Lil Wayne couplets for hours. There's just nothing memorable on this album. The lyrics are all retreads. At first I thought I had just outgrown my love of Weezy, but then I went back and listened to Da Drought II and No Ceilings mixtapes, and they're both so much better.
I wasn't misremembering, I saw everyone counting up who hates Das Racist two pages back, and remembered you replied. Since I never actually read your posts, I thought you were just adding your name to the list. My bad.
I'm proclaiming my fondness for the Carter IV compared to the Carter III. The Carter III was a mess of overly produced MTV songs in which the lyrics took second fiddle. To find the albums most genius verse, you have to sit through someone yelling "Phone Home" 73 times. The album was a carnival, when I would be much happier with just a ferris wheel. The production on the Carter IV (outside of 6'7) has a more old skool gangsta type feel to it, which puts Wayne's rapping as the focus, and that's how it should be. I could give a shit about his production overall, I just don't want to be distracted by it, because, you know, he's like, the best rapper alive.
I just built a house on "I Don't Give A Fuck" Avenue.

That's funny, because those stereotypical southern-rap productions make him sound so boring to me. Carter III is one of my favorite albums because of songs like "Dr. Carter," "Let the Beat Build," and the pinnacle of rap music in my mind, "A Milli." Songs with bombast and productive flair. I think he says cleverer shit in those songs.

Has anyone else been diggin' this Lana Del Rey "Video Games"? I mean, yes, sure, it's very blatant 60's aesthetic and possibly she will turn out to be nothing more than an appropriation of Nanacy Sinatra and Nico but I really love this song.

The Horrible Crowes (Brian Fallon from Gaslight Anthem) first album came out this week. Ohmygoditsgood. I love the Gaslight Anthem and have a total man crush on Brian Fallon, so I might be biased, but holy shit it's awesome. It's like a very chill, mature Gaslight Anthem.

I know someone was talking about it the other day but this new Wilco album is phenomenal. The final track on it might be the best song they've ever recorded.

I only got through the first three tracks when they were streaming it on their website and it sounded great. Are you listening to a stream of it somewhere? I checked NPR and it's not there.
