They're a great live band and they have songs on the radio, so people actually know who they are. There was easily 500 people from Vancouver who saw them at Sasquatch and will probably want to see them again since the show is only $20.

I honestly thought the "and expect it to sell out" referred to "they" as in the band. I'm no grammar Nazi (I am not a grammar Nazi), it just didn't make sense.

Not to interject. But what that sentence implies is:

"I think it is dumb The Joy Formidable are playing a 500 person venue and [The Joy Formidable] expect it to sell out very fast".

But if I'm not mistaken, what you actually mean is:

"I think it is dumb The Joy Formidable are playing a 500 person venue because it will sell out very fast [as it is too small]".

or alternatively,

"I think it is dumb The Joy Formidable are playing a 500 person venue. Expect it to sell out very fast [as it is too small]!"
