'How Soon Is Now?' AKA the theme song from Charmed on the good ole WB. So random but so good.

We got In the Morning, Reasons, The Plan, Center of the Universe, Carry the Zero, Strange, Kicked it in the Sun, Stop the Show, Built to Spill, a Bob Dylan cover, and a (Don't Fear) The Reaper cover. A few others I'm forgetting right now.

So what did they play at the second show?

The First Song
Three Years Ago Today
Stab
I Would Hurt a Fly
Sidewalk
Built to Spill
Abba Zabba* [Captain Beefheart]
Else
Made-Up Dreams
Big Dipper
Done
Carry the Zero

Encore:
Revolution
Goin' Against Your Mind
How Soon Is Now?* [the Smiths]
Living Zoo

* First documented performance

Definitely one of the most unique Built to Spill performances I Have ever seen. I was hoping for a lot of oldies and certainly got my wish, including 'Built to Spill' and 'Revolution' which I never expected to see. Also a promising new jam at the end. This band is consistently amazing.

We had a blast Ben Folds 5, even if we were super anxious the entire time to find out about the lineup. Dudes jammed the fuck out to the classics, 'twas a very nostalgic sing-a-long. But as it turns out, the songs they wrote in their 40's just aren't as good as the ones they wrote in their 20's, ya don't say.

Have fun tonight Storms and Granny!

Seeing them tonight. I am super stoked since I have always wanted to see them so I will be enjoying the nostalgia part. Would you say they played an even amount of old and new or were they heavier on one or the other?

I was going to post the setlist but didn't want to spoil anything.

4 from Ben Folds 5
1 from Naked Baby Photos
6 from Whatever and Ever Amen
2 from The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner
5 from The Sound of the Life of the Mind (new album)

I never got to hear them perform any of the material from Reinhold Messner back in the day; I saw them a year or two before it was released. Sad to see the set leans so heavily on the new record; about half of it's good, but the other half of it is pretty dismal. Still, pretty excited.

Oh Fuck You Marilyn Manson,

Your show in Calgary was a piece of dog shit...and I didn't even pay for my ticket and I felt like it was a waste of time.

Sure you payed the bulk of your hits or songs that "your fans" wanted to hear, but they were so indistguishenable from one to the next (your songs I mean, not the fans) that no one even new what you were singing about; maybe "it was the flu", who knows, who cares. No one, other than those in the first few rows, stood during the show, and that was only because they wanted to catch some of your awesome swag that you threw out into the crowd during the show. I definitly wanted a torn up notebook or aan Amjerican flag that was hanging upside down on your stage. Big deal. You didn't even wipe your ass with it, give it the stink eye , or blow your nose with it. Give it up. That gimmick is over.

I had never seen you before, and even though, you are past your prime, I was still expecting something pretty decent (I mean look at Alice Cooper [who rocks]), but all I got was a show of you, with shit props, and balloons in your mouth. OOOOHHH, LOOK AT MARILYN MANSON, HE HAS BALLOONS IN HIS MOUTH. Whatever dude. Good luck in your future endeavours...and a 65 minute show??!!!! If I paid for my ticket ($80), I'd be one pissed off fan.

Crazy thing is, no one else cared. What that shows, is that you have been ripping your fans off for years, and they've grown to accept this from you. Pack it up an retire, no one cares anymore.

Sincerely,

Blacksmile

Your Biggest Fan 1998-1998
