I think that whole tour was fancy-pants venues. Really old theaters with ornate architecture and a lot of historical significance. I was speechless afterwards.

The Paramount is indeed fancy, but it's t-shirt n' jeans compared to the Schnitz.

Whatever, I was crying from the moment I took my seat until the moment they left the stage. That shit wrecked me.

I wept throughout the Adz performance. Beautiful. I cried last night, too. It was so joyous. I stand by my belief that he is an actual angel.

Josephine is fucking sweet. I can't believe that I have never been there before. Really cool venue. People smoking cigs. Openly smoking pipes/joints/blunts. BYOB. It felt like a really awesome house party (which I am sure they are going for).
Fist Fite was an awesome surprise. They are from Portland and have a wicked cool female vocalist. Rad show.
Brokaw for some reason seemed to have a problem with getting loud. They wanted to be loud but the sound system let them down a bit. They still brought the energy though so I had fun.
Monogamy Party stole the show. This was their first show as a four piece. They used to be just vocal, drum and bass. They added the guitarist from The Pleasureboaters and what an addition! They still had the same raw energy that motivates the crowd to freak out. They added an element of trippiness with the guitar that elevated their show to the next level. 2013 they should have a full-length released and it is going to be RAD!
Rabbits was fucking sick. They are brutal. You Portland guys/gals need to go see this band as they hail from your fair city.
The crowd was very diverse in age. There was a very good vibe for most of the night until a d-bag that was trying to mosh (with 4 others) ran into my brother and got butt hurt that my brother hit him. We called it a night at that point as we did not want to give him any reason to be a bigger idiot.

Rough weekend. I think more time was spent hung over than not. Saturday night I went to one of my favorite shows of the year. It was the birthday of the Shakedown's owner. She booked a show of 4 bands that I have never seen before. I actually had only heard one of them.
The first band was Cower. They are from Bellingham originally and now are based out of Portland. Cower was fast, ferocious and bad ass. I would have purchased their vinyl but I couldn't find their merch guy and was too drunk by the end of the night. Each of the four members took part in vocals throughout the set.
The second band was The Narrows. I guess they were a big deal up here for the past 15 years or so. They have not played a live show in over 2 years and only did this one for the birthday girl. Really good. Slower paced than Cower but still ferocious and bad ass.
The third band was Kowloon Walled City. They are from San Francisco and I was in awe during their set. I have been listening to their recently released Container Ships all week long but the live power they bring is something that can't come through their recordings. If they are coming through your city make sure to check them out if you are into heavy music.
The fourth band was Helms Alee. I have been putting off listening to any of their music because I was waiting to see them live. I wanted to hear them for the first time whenever that came and that was Saturday night. The drummer for Helms Alee is also in LOZEN (which will be on my top albums of the year). Helms Alee brought it to the next level for me. The bassist and drummer (both female) had pretty harmonizing vocals while the dude guitarist had the metal screaming. They blended the two vocal styles perfectly and the instrumentals were trippy as hell. I can't say enough good things about their set. They blew me away. I must find some vinyl for my collection!

So I thought I was seeing LOZEN on Saturday night but they were unable to make it due to illness. Still went to the show anyways and caught a good show from Trophy Wife.
They are a drum/guitar duo out of Philly. Both of the girls due vocals and it was a hell of a fun show. Picked up their record, too.

SunnO))) was really intense. I kind of felt like I was sitting in an audience that was stuck in the hypnotoad's trance. I mean that in a good way. I do not actually own any of their albums and don't know their music. I have just read about their live performance and needed to witness it myself. I loved it!
Black Breath tore that place to pieces. They are always booked to play at smaller/grimier venues in town and they are from BHAM. When they were talking to the crowd they mentioned how they never thought they would be playing at the Buffalo but were stoked to do so. They are amazing and I would highly recommend seeing them if you get a chance. They are playing on 2/2 with Sandrider at The Crocodile. I would totally be there if I wasn't going to Built To Spill that night.
Loincloth was also rad. I only got to see the last 2 songs and I was pissed that I missed their set. They sounded great

Pinback:
A. Rob's beard. B. Rob was on the competitive level of David Yow when it came to drinking beers on stage. I counted 6 Newcastles in 90 minutes, and he appeared to have had a few beforehand. C. They fucked up a lot but it was entertaining. See: B. D. My favorite Pinback show. E. Not emo.
