John Mayer is another example of a talented musician who I will never fully respect.

And doumak: John Mayer is in the same class of terrible as Schumacher's Batman films, Owl City and publicly mocking the handicapped. Lots of douchebags in college can play the guitar good. A lot of 'em have the herpes too, but I wouldn't pay them 45 bucks to watch them perform. You can get that shit for free in the quad, yo.

doumax, an ex used to listen to live John Mayer recordings. You know what you hear when a song starts, a song ends, and while the song is playing? It's not the sound of an informed or appreciative audience applauding for a respectable performance. It's just forty thousand girls screaming for five minutes straight. Guys like to talk about John Mayer as a talented guitar player, because (a) they don't know anything and (b) it was on Rolling Stone one time, but the fact of the matter is that this is just a cover for YOUR GIANT vaginer

Naw I saw a headlining show with a girl. It wasn't that bad. Owl city also played at Sasquatch awhile ago.

I am jealous he banged Taylor Swift.

and Jennifer Aniston.

oh, and Jennifer Love Hewitt, Circa 2001.

"I was astonished at how well he played live. I had no idea he was that good. "

- Eric Clapton, on seeing Mayer perform at the Crossroads Music Festival in 2004.

Now, please feel free to further damage your musical integrity by discrediting Eric Clapton's ability to measure talent on the guitar. Say what you want about the generic music he puts out, but in the traditional sense of the word, John Mayer is a great guitarist and if you cannot see that, then you are trying way too hard to be cool.

KIDS THESE DAYS! YOU MAKE MY BRAIN VOMIT PITY. I honesty hate that I spent this much time talking to a gaggle of 23 year old John Mayer fans. 'But Eric Clapton said...!' My balls. Like I care if that asshat can play guitar. Josh Groban gots a set of pipes but his music is still for people who take music recommendations from Starbucks.

Heh, "defending him" might be a little strong. Let's call a spade a spade. The guy can shred, but given the opportunity I would shit in his mouth.

Not to compare the two artists, but after the Kanye West debate I thought you were actually an open minded music fan. Guess I was wrong. You don't have to like him or his god awful music, but as I said before, the guy can shred.

Not that this showcases his talent, but I think I shat a brick when I learned that a certain cover of "Kid A" was done by Mr. Mayer. The fact that I liked something that he had done surprised and bothered me.

+1

I also more went for Ben Folds not really for Mayer. But added bonus of solid guitar work is much appreciated. I closed my ears whenever he used the microphone.
