It looks like I'm moving into nicer digs in Dec pending the bank lending me some money, and the new place is a condo where I'm a little worried about sound transfer from my audio system given the flooring is hardwood. So, I bought some acoustic foam speaker and subwoofer stands from Amazon. They arrived the other day so I Dr. Garbanzoured I'd try them out in my current apartment where the living room is carpeted. I'm actually pretty surprised at the difference in sound although I suppose I shouldn't be given how speakers work.

My large front speakers do sound a bit crisper, but the subwoofer... wow what a difference. It's way less boomy / muddy and much nicer to listen to. Considering I spent all of about $100 total for all of the foam stands (sub and 5 speakers), I'm pretty happy with the result. I'm sure my downstairs neighbours at the new place will also be much happier when I decide to crank it up.

Lots of options if you search Amazon and other retailers. If you want to try something even cheaper that at least one Amazon reviewer claims does the same thing more or less, you can buy some foam yoga blocks. I didn't try that myself.

The idea is that you isolate your speakers from the surface they're sitting on using acoustic foam. it's hardly innovative but it seems to work pretty well.
