| | Ongoing favorite albums of 2012 (updated 12/03) « Thread Started on Jan 27, 2012, 5:15pm » | |
This could be a pretty cool way to keep track of 2012 albums that we particularly enjoy, as well as a way to recommend new albums to other users on the board. Use this thread to post only new albums that you're especially fond of, and I'll try my best to keep this first post updated with all of our favorites. Try to restrain from turning this into another "Post about any/every album coming out this year" thread. If you feel like it, a short review or description for lesser known artists and albums could be nice. Have fun!
(NOTE: Skeezy Kaneezy, newjersey, and StakeyJay - I have your lists archived. If you want them re-added with any updates just let me know.)

Haha, I just haven't listened to enough yet. But okay, I'll play. The two that have clicked for me so far, have been:
Drew's List - Cloud Nothings - Attack on Memory Sharon Van Etten - Tramp

That Cloud Nothings album keeps growing on me. I didn't care for it at all upon first listen but the hooks and melodies are really starting to sink in.

I haven't listened to a lot of new stuff yet, but I'm with you guys, that Cloud Nothings is so great. Definitely a favorite so far.
EDIT: I also had no idea the Sharon Van Etten album was even out yet, I'll have to check that out.

I've enjoyed the Cloud Nothings and Alcest albums mentioned already a lot but I would add:
Grimes - Visions and Polica - Give up the Ghost
Xiu xiu also put out a decent album this year

Absolutely nothing, so far. Have not listened to any 2012 albums yet. More details as warrants.

I'm really excited for the new Magnetic Fields record, but I don't think I've heard a single new album yet this year.
The new Residents album was released today, but technically it's a 2011 release because a special edition was released in October of last year. Those fuckers sold out so fast that not even I could get my hands on one. That fact, coupled with the fact that not only myself but Stormy as well thinks it's one of their best ever indicates it's really something special... I'm just glad to finally have it to listen to.

Not much out in the last month, but these are the two that have hit me pretty hard.

Man, I keep forgetting to listen to that GBV album somehow. I think I just think the fact that album is out is just some weird dream I had, and not in fact real.
Heard some of that Cloud Nothings album while I was in Criminal Records the other day, and I have to admit, it sounded pretty rad.
