Yeah I don't really care for this album. It's tries to be so big and grandiose it ends up being a little overwhelming. It's like every song needs the big wailing Florence crescendo or huge banging drums or a massive 300 piece orchestra.
What I loved about Lungs is they mixed they mixed those big moments in with much more subtlety so they had more of an impact.
Ceremonials feels like an album a beating chest Celine Dion would make.

My wife listens to this album repeatedly and it eventually grew on me, but I love your description Womp.

It is that lovely time of year. I love lists to make sure I didn't miss any sleepers. It was a weird year where indie veterans made some super mediocre albums and some great up and comers made some pretty dang solid albums.
1. Shabazz Palaces - Black Up 2. Panda Bear - Tomboy 3. OPN - Replica 4. Bon Iver - Bon Iver, Bon Iver 5. A Winged Victory for the Sullen - S/T 6. Peaking Lights - 936 7. A$AP Rocky - LiveLoveA$ap 8. White Denim - D 9. araabMUZIK - Electronic Dream 10. Girls - Father, Son, Holy Ghost

What exactly does that Peaking Lights album sound like? I've seen it pop up on a few lists so far but I know like nothing about it.
And I've never even heard of a winged victory. Sounds like metal?

A Winged Victory for the Sullen is the most beautiful instrumental album I've heard in a while and is two members from Stars of the Lid. Simply stunning. The peaking lights record is a psychedelic drone album that is easy to get lost in. Pretty awesome.
