really? i'm at like 7 albums that i thoroughly enjoyed, and about 25 that i kinda-sorta enjoyed.
a good chunk of the albums that i've been listening to lately actually came out in 2010.

I think your "thoroughly enjoy" is more like my "fucking love." I only have about ten that I fucking love, but another 40 I thoroughly enjoy.

I think 2010 was an exceptionally great year for music. Off the top of my head I would say I enjoyed "This is Happening", "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy", "Forgiveness Rock Record", "The Suburbs" and "Sir Lucious Left Foot" more than anything I have heard this year.

I'll agree there were some no brainers last year, and my top five was pretty easy to make. But this year, there are just a lot more good albums than last year, even if it's missing what might eventually be referred to as "classics."

Hah. On the contrary, my friend was ultra excited to see them at Coachella this year, but she ended up finding me half way through their set and said they were a total letdown.

This. I thought they were the most average show I have seen in a long time. Didnt sound bad, but were completly uninteresting to watch.

Destroyer - Kaputt
Radiohead - King of Limbs
The Perfect Vessels - Name Our Own Stars
Yann Tiersen - Dust Lane
Man Man - Life Fantastic
If By Yes - Salt on Sea Glass
Boston Spaceships - Let It Beard
Primus - Green Naugahyde
They Might Be Giants - Join Us
Moonface - Organ Music and Not Vibraphone Music Like I'd Hoped
Colin Stetson - New History Of Warfare Vol. 2: Judges
13 and God - Own Your Ghost
Umlaut - Umlaut
St. Vincent - Strange Mercy
Glorie - Glorie
Feist - Metals
Tom Waits - Bad As Me
M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming
My Brightest Diamond - All Things Will Unwind
Wilco - The Whole Love
David Lynch - Crazy Clown Time
Atlas Sound - Parallax
Pepper Rabbit - Red Velvet Snowball

I thought all of these were pretty solid albums, some are a lot better than others, but trimming it down to a Top 10 won't be too easy.

There are a few others I haven't added to the list yet.

Is everyone cool with me starting an end of the year "top albums" thread on Dec. 1st? I'm getting anxious.

Well, with the Black Keys releasing their new album on the 6th I suppose I'll start the thread sometime that week in order to give people a chance to listen to it.

I'm cool with it. I'm starting to review 2011 albums to firm up my opinions. Year of the female singer/songwriter! PJ Harvey, St. Vincent and Feist at the top.

I managed to hammer out my top 20 pretty easily today. The top spot could have gone probably one of 3-4 ways but I'm comfortable with who I put up there.

I'm giving that M83 album a few more goes because everyone loves it so much. I just can't help but feel like it would have been a perfect 50 minute album.

Also, the track with the little kid talking is the most indulgent thing, like "I'm just going to have a song where the cutest little kid describes the happiest possible scenario!" It gives me diabetes. That being said, the highlights of the album are becoming highlightier for me, so it's definitely improving in my view.

I literally can't listen to the St. Vincent album too much because I know I'll ruin it for myself if I do. It's like not eating cake to lose weight. It's so fucking great.

Also, I'll admit that I believed the rhetoric about the Bjork album being sub-par songwriting and more ideas than substance when it first came out, but listening to it now, I really really like most of those songs and think it stands next to some of her best work.

And last, the new Tom Waits is a really solid album but as many times as I listen to it, it's just not transcendent like you always expect with Tom Waits. Just a tad disappointing. But still excellent.

I hate to say it, but the new Tom Waits album sounds like Tom Waits made an album that kind of sounds like a Tom Waits album. I've listened to it a few times now and I just don't find it very unique.

St. Vincent I have never been able to get into :/
