You may have already heard of this but if not, check it out. I feel like you guys would really enjoy it.. I could go on to explain what it is but that would be a waste of both our time if you already know what it is. (If you want me to explain it, I can. Or you can just read something else/Dr. Garbanzoure it out yourself/etc.)
I don't know why I'm posting this since I never post anything but whatever. Enjoy~

Yeah, especially since that link takes me to a page that very much looks like it is trying to steal my Facebook password.

Ha, good point. I was just somewhat hesitant about posting it since I know how much you guys loove board 'newbies'. But I'm not a hacker or anything, I just thought you'd like the site. It's basically just a good way to share music.. You 'dj' and people can vote if they like the song or not.

Yeah, apparently it's the new cool music thing.
I don't know if anyone follows music business blogs but Bob Lefsetz has a post that talks about and explains it. It's still invite only, though

OH> MY> GOD.
I know I'm a relative newbie here too but gun to her head or not, amanda preaches the TRUTH!
A friend sent me here about two weeks ago when it was still invite-only. Currently it is still in beta testing, and has a few bugs to work out, but it is an amazing new concept for sharing/playing/listening to music. I highly recommend checking it out.
The Basic Idea is social media meets music. There are various rooms (which have music themes, i.e. indie chill/acoustic; progressive trance; 90's hip-hop; music that doesn't suck; nerd party, etc.). Within each room, there can be any number of people who are represented by avatars. there are 5 "turntables" in each room, on which 5 different people take turns spinning music.
The library of music to choose from is VERY expansive, but the best part is you can upload YOUR OWN MUSIC from your computer and play it in the rooms. For instance, I have uploaded a few songs by my friend's band (http://stilltimemusic.com sorry for the shameless plug) and played them in a room of 200 people.
Not trying to sell anything, I just think this is 100% the future of music sharing and my favorite new way to learn about new music. Check it out! http://turntable.fm/lobby

oh yeah...
The reason they need access to your FB account is for your friends list. Because it's a social media vs music site, they will tell you when your friends are on turntable and in the lobby, it will tell you what room they are in and whether they are just listening or spinning.
This is particularly useful if your friends have just started a room that's just for your group of friends (for instance, my buddy just started one called "it's raul's world and you're just livin' in it"). often times a room such as this one will have so few people in it, it may not show up on the list of rooms in the "lobby." However, because we are all FB friends, it shows up at the top of the list.
