Do you seriously doubt that the Red Hot Chili Peppers are able to put on a wicked good show? Man I'd be all over that shit.

Shit, especially a festival set. Flea is a fucking insane person. What the fuck ever with Anthony Kiedis, he's irrelevant to the process. The backbone of that band is extremely well fortified with the awesome power of funk.

Ah, I forgot about RHCP. Honestly, I'd love to see them live. So long as they only played everything prior to Californication.

My bro's seen them a few times because he's, well, a bro. But he said he's enjoyed seeing them perform live.

then again, this is also coming from someone who is a die-hard Incubus fan...

Otherwise known as "hipster backlash".

Only if they are basking in underserved popularity. If someone said Radiohead is one of the best bands in the world I would just nod. If someone says U2 is one of the best bands in the world, I would argue because I dont think they are. It doesnt really matter if I think they suck or if I think they are alright. I still dont they they are near the top.

And like I said, popular bands are forced on the world, so even though there are lots of bands worse than U2 out there, the fact that I have to listen to them pretty much every day makes me tired of them.

Its like that friend you sort of like. See him once or twice a month, he's an alright guy; see him 5 times a week and all of the sudden you hate his guts.

Whether you like them or not, (and no one is telling you that you have to like them) U2 is one of the most important bands over the past 35 years. Period. End of argument.

I saw Bowie back in '96. It was entertaining as hell.

I particularly liked the (NSFW reading coming up here folks) full on porno cumshots on the video screen during Fame, juxtaposed with the little girls watching from Daddy's shoulders.

"Daddy, what's she DOING?"

So so so bad...

I now envy you. I rode the bus to Edgefield (music venue outside of Portland) last year, my first time doing that. I didn't know what stop to get off at, so after an hour commute (seriously), I jumped up to the front to ask the driver to let me off near Edgefield. He asked me who was playing, so I told him an old fart, Bob Dylan, and he started going off about music. He was from England, and told me he used to see David Bowie for $5. I wish I had sat in the front the entire trip, because that bus driver knew his shit about old skool music, and he had a cool accent. This board is missing an old fart.

Mutha fukin Prince. If you don't like Prince, you either have no soul, or you are taking the term "hipster" way too serious. I was lucky enough to catch him live about seven years ago, and it was amazing.

Yup. In terms of significance, talent, artistic influence and presence they belong on a list with Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Radiohead.

The Beatles occupy their own list. The Beatles were a Never Before, Never Again thing.

I've said it before, but since I'm still fucking furious about it I'll say it again: I had tickets to that Bowie tour in '96. Bowie with fucking Nine Inch Nails. The Earthling tour, which remains one of my favorite Bowie records. And my mom wouldn't let me go.

I was so totally not allowed to listen to NIN when I was fifteen. I kept a cassette of Pretty Hate Machine hidden in the glove compartment of my old Benz and my dad found it and took it away.

I can agree with that.

I still have no interest in seeing them live or voluntarily listening to their music, I get my fill in day to day life. I won't try to argue their importance though.
