Thanks Geno. I will start there.....I mean, I will let my friend know.
There are several approaches, of course. You can start at the front of their discography, MPP, and work your way backwards, because it generally gets less accessible from there. OR you could be brave and listen to "Spirit They're Gone," "Danse Manatee," "Campfire Songs," "Here Comes the Indian," and Panda's first solo album. These albums are weird, noisy and often incoherent, and totally beautiful. I think if you listen to enough inaccessible AC, the more recent stuff is that much more rewarding, and makes more sense. After that they start getting poppier - "Sung Tongs" is where that starts, and is probably the best AC album, perfect balance between later and earlier stages of their career.
That's my 2 cents. If I have time later I'll post a list of my favorite tracks.

Sounds like I am going to have to quit being lazy and just explore the whole catalog. Thanks for the recommendations though.

That is a good idea. I personally would start with Sung Tongs and work your way up. You can see the progression from freak folky sounds to freak electronic sounds. It will be interesting to see where they go direction wise now that deaks is back and mpp was relatively huge for the band.

Hey andimac, I see you live in Moscow. If you don't have any plans tonight you should check out the band playing at John's Alley. Handful of Luvin'. Don't let the name deter you. They are a high energy jam band and are always a crowd pleaser. I don't know if that kind of music is your cup of tea but even if it isn't I guarantee that you will enjoy these guys. Thanks for the AC advice as well ( I had to keep my post on topic).

Sung Tongs is definitely the best, and definitely my favorite, but it's a grower for sure. Parts of it can be kind of disorienting. It requires some patience but it's really, really worth it.

I'm out of town this weekend, but thanks for the advice. I know some co-workers that love them!

Honestly, at this point in the year, I start thinking that the lineup is going to suck, and won't have anyone I like on it, because the odds seem so poor for every band I like. Then I'm always blown away by a hundred bands I didn't even think about, and I get into five or six I hadn't heard of.

I agree totally. I'm not a fan of the big PNW bands (MM, Decemberists, DCFC) and any of the expected bands so far. But this always happens every year. I'm trying to grapple with the idea that Coachella also is going to pit Arcade Fire with Animal Collective probably. Talk about hipster suicide!

Hipsters freak me out
I'm excited to see what the squatch has in store. I'm not big on guessing. I don't really care who plays. That's a lie, I care but no matter who is playing, I'm going.
