I didn't mean to jump at you, alex... it's just I get a little passionate about this one. Massive Attack were the reason I came to Sasquatch last year. For me it was a MONUMENTAL pickup. And they didn't disappoint (everyone seemed to agree last year too - they even won the Sasquatch World Cup - remember that guys?)
I guess I feel about Massive Attack the same way Lumpy feels about Pavement... or the way Friendly feels about Wilco... or the way Horned feels about Arcade Fire.... ok, maybe Horned not so much.

That's either a Gunther-esque joke or the wrongest comparison this board has ever seen.

Fair enough. Foo Dr. Garbanzohters are likely to be the draw for me this year. I'm actually going to base it all on the undercard if that's the headliner roster, since I've seen 2 of them recently (last tour) and will have seen The Pixies by then.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm looking forward to seeing Foo Dr. Garbanzohters as well. I don't even really like them - but i'm willing to bet it's going to be a great show.

Last year The National was the band that made me go, because the closest they ever come to here is Vancouver.

Exactly dude. What counds as 'big' for you guys? It's not like there's really THAT many bands that could sell out an arena; Radiohead, Kanye, Arcade Fire on a GOOD night if they're lucky... U2, Gaga, Stones, Who, Green Day. Am I missing any? What are you really expecting? Arcade Fire is almost sure to be there; more than one off that list won't happen ANYWHERE but Coach and Lolla, and half those names NONE of us want anyway.
Almost all of the headliners from the last five years have been roughly Pixies caliber. Every once in a while they land someone big: R.E.M., NIN, etc. Barring something major, you're getting the AF set you all have been bitching for for all these years, so there's your R.E.M./NIN for '11. If you think Squatch's lineup is going to beat Coach's in terms of star power, you're fucking delusional and that's that.
Let those of us who aren't fucking human weathervanes when it comes to music have our Pixies and our Ween. |
|
a big name headliner to me is something like Daft Punk, the Black Keys, Soundgarden, the Pixies, or the very unlikely chance or Radiohead.
Arcade Fire have never really appealed to me but if they show up I'll probably check em out anyway.

nothing against the Black Keys, cuz I do like them. But do they really qualify as a 'big name?' I know they're on the cadillac commercial and all right now... but big name headliner? i'm not sure. maybe it's just me.

I think they have a similar drawing power as a band like Massive Attack. They are way more accessible to an American audience (not in terms of their music but their availability and tour schedule), but they have been steadily gaining in popularity and have a ton of fans, in the northwest especially.
At the very least I see them being more popular to a general audience than I do Ween or My Morning Jacket.

look, i like the Black Keys. I do. They're a great band. But I disagree with your ranking of them. And maybe this falls down to a simple difference of opinion, i concede that.
For me, I would argue that the Black Keys fall somewhere between the National and MGMT on most Festival hierarchies. Right now, their ceiling goes as high as a sub-headliner.
I'd be happy as hell to see the Black Keys on the lineup, but i'd be more than a little disappointed if a headliner spot went to them.

It's not a difference of opinion, ebay is just wrong. Don't worry about it.

ebay is one of those people who thinks that if he likes a band, they're probably the biggest band in the world.
