Speaking of Bright Eyes though. I just discovered David Dondero, one of Conor's biggest influences. I am really impressed. Especially his stuff from the early 90's in the band Sunbrain.

Thats your opinion. I bet someone out there likes Sunbrain. David Dondero is a modern day beatnik and I bet someone thinks he is a badass like I do. Maybe my conversations would get somewhere if you didn't tell me to fuck off every time I write something.

I can see the connection you make but if you haven't listened to David Dondero then I suggest you do before you make that assumption. Check out the album South of the South. I recommend the song "Laying low in Eli, Nevada" A great beatnik song about getting wasted in a little Nevada town and sleeping with a random chick who ends up robbing him.
