Does anyone have any insight into this band? Have you seen them live or heard their album? I tried to get a Torrent at one point but was unsuccesful. They are playing at the same time as The XX and Tegan & Sara and not sure if I want to check these guys out or not...are they worth seeing over these other bands?
Not that I trust them, but Pitchfork gave them a shit review and dropped bands like Owl City and Death Cab into the review...are these similar artists?

I'm skipping The XX and Tegan & Sara to see them. Mostly because Tegan & Sara are here near constantly and I'm pretty sure The XX will be here sooner than later.
I'd personally recommend listening to Generator ^1st Floor, Generator ^2nd floor, Ghosting, Broken Horses, and The Great Estates.
I like to think that they are Owl City if Owl City had talent and wasn't annoying as fuck. That's my review.

Alright then...I will take that into consideration. Being from Alberta I've seen Tegan & Sara a few times, and am a bit hesitant about the venue for The XX so I may check Freelance out instead. Thanks Alex!

I recently posted this in another thread:
Saw Freelance Whales in Vancouver on Friday. They played opener for Shout out Louds. I was/am pretty into their album. Their live show was good, but not great. Could have just been some issues with sound mixing, but things just seemed out of whack. The lead singer was inaudible for some parts of the songs just due to the volume of the bass drum. They played a pretty good opener set though, probably 7 songs or so. Generator First Floor, and Broken Horse being the highlights for me. I've got them conflicting with the xx on Sunday, so I'll probably just see the first 20 minutes and then take off.
So, I think they are worth checking out for at least 20 minutes. A little electro-poppy at points, but pretty fun.

Freelance Whales are lame, sappy hipster music. Even so, blacksmile, if you want to listen to their record the best way is still to fucking pay for it.

love their album. it is sort of in that same "cutesy" category as owl city, but they definitely have talent and know how to make some insanely catchy chunes. i saw them last month and enjoyed the live show for sure. i will be checking at least part of their set out again at sasquatch.

Also 'Freelance Whales' is one of the worst fucking names for a band I've ever heard.

SUCK IT THERE HORNY GRANDMA OR WHATEVER THE HELL YOUR NAME IS! I buy 10-12 CD's a month, and have been for years, so don't pull that stealing shit on me. If I want to check out a couple of songs by a band I know nothing about there's no problem with downloading the album...if it's good I'll buy it...if it sucks then I won't.

Right, right. Try before ya buy. Heard that one before. Don't worry, I believe you.
I won't put that stealing shit on you if you don't cop to trying to steal on a message board, dickwit.

I can appreciate you being pissed about people stealing all of the music they listen to instead of buying and I was not putting that impression out there about myself. I don't see an issue with checking out an album before deciding to buy, and I would assume I'm not the only one on this board that does so, I just slipped up by admitting it.
But it's all good and I accept your apology grandma.

Uhhhmmm... right. If you're still interested in other peoples' takes on Freelance Whales...
Their sound: catchy, easy to listen to, and I like it. I think of them as a mixture between The Postal Service and Sufjan Stevens. Their album: it's great! I like some songs more than others, but as a whole it's still a great listen. Also, I had no problems (ethically or technologically) downloading it through torrents. Their live show: haven't seen them before, but I've heard it isn't as good as would be nice. They're a new band and playing the Yeti stage though, so what can you expect. Their Sasquatch show: I'm definitely seeing it. I could give a rat's ass about T&S, and the clash with The xx is only like 5-10 minutes so I'll just head over to the Bigfoot stage when I'm good and ready. Their name: yeah, it's odd, but who the fuck cares.

^I'm still interested and that was more what I was looking for! Thanks Wolfhat (and Alex) for your thoughts on the band...and yes, since the overlap bewtween them and The XX is only 10 minutes I will more than likely check em out.
