I hadn't bothered to look into this band because my plate was already pretty full of bands and songs and all kinds of music-geek-research that I wanted to get through before the festival, but then I saw them on Craig Ferguson...and...now I have to see them.

This song is just so damn catchy and it's been stuck in my head ever since.

Is anybody a big fan of them? can you recommend some other songs that I should listen to? or should I just pick up the CD and go from there? are they established? do they have more than 1 CD? which CD should I listen to!?! *head explode*

basically what I'm asking is, has anybody done the research for me already?

Here's some useful info (FYI - I'm not being a smartass):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Local_Natives

They have only one lp right now but have a pretty decent buzz band. I'm actually seeing them this Friday in Chicago, so I'll be able to tell you more about them later this weekend. That said, I love their album (I would give it 4 out of 5 stars) and hear their live shows are tits.

I listened to their CD prior to them being announced on the line-up and thought they were great and they have since become one of the main bands that I am catching that weekend. They have such a great sound to them that one cannot dislike them. Gorilla Manor is their only album, as pointed out above, and it is truly a great listen. If you're pissed off or angry for any reason this CD will put you in a better mood for sure!

excellent. They seem to have a lot more energy live compared to the studio version of Airplanes.

I have tickets to see them on Governor's Island (NYC) in August just in case some shit goes down or something. I'm taking no chances, I will see this band.

one of my top albums of 2010 for sure. kind of curious to see if they turn into the next fleet foxes in terms of popularity.

Local Natives is Fleet Foxes if Fleet Foxes came from a bright, California city instead of the archetypal woods.
Local Natives is Grizzly Bear if Grizzly Bear decided to stop being boring and subtle.

Speaking of Fleet Foxes does anyone have a clue what's happened to them? They were on the rise and then it seems that they have dropped off the map! They kicked at Sasquatch 2008! Patiently waiting for a follow up!

They were at Sasquatch 2009 (and All Points West 2009, playing the role of "wizards who brought rain") and are probably working on a new album now. Wikipedia says late 2010 release.

The last couple of years, they toured their asses off. So they decided to take a little break to work on a new album plus a couple of the guys are doing some side projects. We should see them touring again late 2010 - early 2011

I'm interested to hear about your first hand experience with their live show. If I do make it in to see Caribou at 12 I was thinking about checking them out. Report back!

I'm so syked to see them. I actually checked out their album about a week before the line up was released after reading a few favorable reviews and was very excited to see their name announced. After Surfer Blood's album its my favorite debut release of the year thus far. I don't know anything about their live shows but have read good things. I'm also eager to read mazdawg's update after he sees them live. Have fun man!

I was surprised to hear the song selection they played on the late show. The first time I heard it, I chuckled at the randomness of the lyrics and pace near the early part of the song. I still laugh when I hear that song, and consider skipping it each time I listen to the album.

Maybe I just don't want another Fleet Foxes, since that's been done, so it doesn't sound new and fresh when I listen to them, even though I like their music.

To each their own, I'll be at Midlake.
