Ok so since I don't see another thread about this band, here it is.

They are the main reason I'm making the trip. When I first heard about Sasquatch 2010 I said "If The National goes, Alex goes" and here we are.

Their new album will be released May 11

Alex I have pretty much the same mentality as you. I was strongly considering going, because last year was so much fun, but what really sold me was the National. I flew from Calgary to New York last year just to see them at APW, because they never come anywhere near me. It was an amazing show, and I'm so excited to hear their new stuff. Looks like it's about half new stuff from that set list. Can. Not. Wait.

I'm glad to see some love for The National here. There are certain songs I wish they'd play, but any concert is like that when you know and love so much of their music.

I plan to just zone out my surroundings (aside from the view) and enjoy their set as much as possible.

Barring conflict, I'm looking forward to seeing them perform their new material.

I don't understand the great live band tag though? The lead singer always has an overly dramatic expression on his face, while making awkward movements with his elbows and forearms. The two guitar players look like over-sized midgets, and rock their shoulders back and fourth in unison with creepy grins on their face. I find myself staring at the drummer, mostly out of fear that one of the twins will look my direction, and scare the hell out of me.

They play their songs, then they go home. What part of their live shows am I missing that make it so amazing?

While I enjoy me some National I have to agree. The videos I've seen of them live look staggeringly average.

There is a lot more energy in their shows than you would expect from hearing the songs on the album. Songs like "Secret Meeting" and "Squalor Victoria" take on a much bigger sound than on the album versions. The drummer is great, but I can see what you mean about the twins. However, I love the mannerisms of the singer including the "awkward movements with his elbows and forearms". His performance, along with his vocals, are something I love about The National, uniqueness.

Yeah, his voice is amazing, but I don't think it that much more impressive live than listening to the albums.

The first time I saw them three years ago, I recall a grummy looking violin player stealing the show, but he hasn't been around lately. Maybe that is why I find their recent shows boring.

Yeah, I had been listening to The National for awhile before I got my chance to see them play at Street Scene in 08... It was such an emotionally moving and powerful show, and I thought that was just due to the personal connection I had with the music, come to find out friends who had never heard them before felt something similar.

Not gonna lie, I was sold when I saw Broken Social Scene, but I threw down the cash when I read the National. As long as they don't conflict with BSS, which it won't, I'm always going to watch the National. It's going to be a beautiful show with the Gorge behind them, and the night in full swing. Besides their latest set line-ups seem pretty well rounded with Abel, and Slow Show being perfectly placed before and after newer songs.

A little off topic, but their touring with Ramona Falls up to the day before the show, anyone else a fan?

I'm bummed they may conflict with the hold steady but i've seen them live at the capitol hill block party a couple years back. I can't wait to finally see the National.

Terrible Love debut on Fallon. As you can see it's the opening track on the new album. I'm so excited for this album, and if this is how they're starting it off I think it's going to be incredible.

I am so, so excited to see the National at Sasquatch! I saw half a set of theirs back in '07 before I was a huge fan so this will essentially be my first time seeing them. If/when they play "Slow Show," I am going to FREAK OUT. Will also be so happy if they play "Mr. November."

I can't really explain what made their performance so great for me. I just love their music so much, that it was great to finally hear it live. They certainly bring a certain emotion to the songs that is not necessarily felt on the album versions. I would it's up for interpretation, and if you don't like the mannuerisms or looks of the band then just listen to the music and stare out into the gorge. That sounds like a perfect evening to me.
