For people who live in Seattle, The National and The Hold Steady will both be playing headlining shows sometime in the summer (too lazy to look up the dates ). The Hold Steady is about $20 cheaper than The National, so I'm likely going to see all of The National's set, head over the second stage to catch the latter half of The Hold Steady, and then see a full set of theirs later at the Showbox. The only other conflicts for me are Massive Attack/Public Enemy and Pavement/Dirty Projectors. Pavement wins over Dirty Projectors, but I'll try to catch at least a little of both PE and MA. Actually, I'm not missing any of MA, so I'll probably run to the second stage after Pavement and watch Public Enemy for as long as it takes Massive Attack to set up. I also have a time where 3 bands that I hate are playing simultaneously. I can't stand Tegan and Sara, The xx, or Freelance Whales, and none of my friends like those bands either, so it's going to be a toss up there. I'll probably give Freelance Whales the nod, since I've only been able to judge them through live youtube videos.

The National vs. The Very Best: Most likely watch the first 30 minutes of the National and then go catch TVB's set. Chances are I will never get another chance to see them. This is the biggest decision for me. I've been thinking about this the last couple days, that I would see the Very Best over the National for the same reason you stated. When all is said and done, I will have seen the National 48 times, so I'm thinking Why? followed by The Very Best. The crowds should be small.

Vampire Weekend v. Literally anything else (I have seen VW twice now, but none of the surrounding bands appeal to me. Especially not Dam-Funk, fuck that guy) That is a tough one. I have no interest in seeing Vampire Weekend, Nada Surf, or Dam-Funk, so Vampire Weekend wins so I can get a better spot for My Morning Jacket. I was so excited to see MGMT and Vampire Weekend on the lineup so I could check out the other stages, now I'm going to end up seeing them both.

Well, your comment just makes me want to check them out now! That didn't help at all. Yeah...dickheaded on my part. Sorry about that! Both are great live but as stated before, The Hold Steady rip it up as a bar band whereas The National might be more suitable for the festival. The National's music fits the atmoshpere of The Gorge so well and will be an epic part of the weekend. They blew me away when they played the Yeti stage in 2008. Alright, Checked em out. You can find me at The National.

Unless you were planning on getting up close and personal for Ween you should check out The New Pornographers. They're a decent enough live band!

And they closed with Mr. November 47 times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (there was a bar fire that ended one show after four songs). That's awesome... As I've mentioned anytime I've seen them they haven't even sang Mr. November, let alone closed with it, but also as I mentioned... that'd be awesome; although Slow Show as a closer... Amazing. I fell in love with the "29 Years," recording, that's what made me love The National, and hearing that chorus in Slow Show just strengthened the sentiment.

Here is the spreadsheet from before with updated set times. It needs some fine tuning (ahem, bradberad) as stated before I am an Excel n00b. Thoughts: - Pleased with Girls / The XX switching slots, freeing up an XX/LCD conflict. - Bummed about the Public Enemy / Massive Attack conflict - pleased with the BSS / Miike Snow conflict being less overlapping; I can catch a good chunk of Miike Snow after BSS. - I think I'll flip a coin during Craig Robinson and Dr. Dog. I have a bunch of conflicts, but the biggest ones I expected all along: - The National vs. The Hold Steady (National wins, but maybe I can run over to catch the end of the HS set) - Vampire Weekend vs. Nada Surf (Not the biggest fan of either, but want a decent spot for MMJ so I guess VW wins) - Midlake vs. Local Natives (Local Natives get the nod) - Tegan and Sara vs. The xx vs. Freelance Whales (Probably go with the xx, hoping it will be easier to catch the other two acts close to home) - Pavement vs. Dirty Projectors (Tough call, I might try to do half and half on this one, will be seeing pavement in montreal at osheaga) - Temper Trap vs. Phantogram (Not super into either band, but the Phantogram crowd will be a bit smaller - Passion Pit vs. Dr. Dog vs. Craig Robinson (Dr. Dog should be the easy choice, but man Darryl is pretty darn funny) - She & Him vs. The Mountain Goats vs. Japandroids (Probably the toughest choice for me, I've seen Japandriods once and they were really good, I think the Mountain Goats will win out though, Zooey though...damn) - Band of Horses vs. Camera Obscura (BoH will probably win out, although CO would be a great show too) - MGMT vs. New Pornographers (I saw a bit of MGMT live last year and it sucked, but I know everyone I'm with will want to see them, and maybe congratulations will be better. fuck it new pornographers win.)

Pavement vs Dirty Projectors if you're aghast, I'm seeing Pavement in august.
A little bummed I'm missing two artists (Girls and YACHT) for LCD but I've seen YACHT this year, heard bad about Girls live and have never seen LCD before. Just a relief that the xx and LCD don't conflict.
ryslice: I'm going to Osheaga too!

The people who told you Girls were bad live are liars and you need to stop listening to them. Still, LCD/Girls is not a tough decision.

Have seen about 20 acts from the lineup and would rank the Hold Steady a runaway No. 1 in terms of live show out of those 20.. Dr. Dog would be 2 and Langhorne Slim is 3.

Someone please lend a helping hand in making these decisions! (I know, some of these have probably been answered, but there are just too many pages to look through. Forgive me!)
SATURDAY ------------
The National vs. Hold Steady vs. Why? Don't really know any of these bands too well but heard they are all terrific live. I will probably end up walking around and seeing a couple songs from each, but would like to know who you think I should devote most of my time to.
OK Go vs. Patrick Watson vs. Patton Oswalt Probably the biggest FML for me. Not so much because of OK Go even though I did want to see them and would imagine them having a very fun set, but because of the Watson/Oswalt aka Oswaltson conflict. Just recently got into Patrick Watson and he was tops on my must-see at Sasquatch list, but Patton is one of my favourite comedians and I feel like I'd be a fool to miss him. How amazing is PAtrick Watson live?
SUNDAY ---------
Massive Attack vs. Public Enemy Worth missing the first half hour of Massive Attack for Public Enemy? Actually nevermind. Stupid question. I can obviously just decide while I'm at Public Enemy.
Pavement vs. Dirty Projectors Only mildly familiar with both. Who will put on a better show? I guess I'll have more oppertunities to see DP in the future so Pavement is probably the way to go, right?
MONDAY ----------
Dr. Dog vs. Craig Robinson Are Dr. Dog's shows memorable? Pretty big fan, but find with their style of music the live show could either be great energetic fun or just kind of boring. Anyone seen Craig Robinson stand-up? Funny?
DBT's vs. Bobcat Goldthwait Probably going to do Bobcat on this one. Was excited about the DBT's but Bobcat is sort of a legend, right? Well that might be taking it a bit far, but since discovering World's Greatest Dad (which if you haven't seen go watch it fucking now) I'm ecstatic about seeing him live.
Oh, P.S. I saw MGMT last summer and they bored the shit out of me, buuuuut I saw them at Coachella and they kinda blew me away. The new album sounds really good live and I think they have really tried to step up their live performances based on all the negative feedback. Some people will disagree I'm sure but I'd say you should definitely give them another chance.

here's a possible conflict solution for some of you: broken social scene has just announced dates in seattle and portland for october 15th and 16th. wasn't a conflict at all for me though since i was going to see them either way. now i'll just see them twice
