Oh my god why aren't the kids listening to albums.

It isn't about blending in, it is about being a cohesive whole.

Crazymadman, while your posts about "listening" to music via American Idol votes off of the Island are concerning, I do envy you because clearly you are yet to appreciate and experience an entire other world that music has to offer.

Hahaha, am I making you guys feel old?

I do see flaws in my system with sometimes passing over bands/songs that will grow on you over time/the good songs arent the popular ones....still I have a hard time seeing anyone with a life going STRAIGHT into an album of an artist you've never heard before. Like, say someone on the internet says "hey this band is good, you should check em out", you respond by *listening to every album from that artist*, wouldnt you want to know if they were good or not before wasting all that time if they're crap?

And here is the problem. Music is art. Real music anyways. Much like other forms of art there is a history and mechanics to it. I'm not saying "you need to study up on yer music history", but clearly you are still just grazing the surface of what this form of art has to offer you.

Your quote is very indicative of what you are looking to get out of your music. It may not feel it to you, but it is a very surface take on music. I don't fault you for this, and it's not really an old and young thing. No one is born with a full and comprehensive understanding of music, this usually comes by way of exposure to music and exposure to people who know it.

Since this all has to do with The Flaming LIps I'd start there. Check out the Lip's story (even if it is a Wiki search or allmusic.com). You never know the eye opening world such a thing can lead you down. Even when you start as specific as "Soft Bulletin". When every review says "It's the modern day Pet Sounds", see what that's all about...

Anyways, blah blah blah blah

No, just sad for the state of music and the art of the album. Genres like "Chillwave" make me feel old.

I wouldn't know they are crap until I had listened to them and Dr. Garbanzoured it out.

You aren't making me feel old. You are making yourself seem young. Very young, and utterly ignorant.

For that new person.

File under Synopsis of WRONG KID DIED.

References to Dewey Cox that relate to the supposed story that Conor Oberst's brother drowned in a bathtub. (is that clear enough, or shall I delve deeper?)

Wow, this turned hostile pretty friggin fast.....Think you're missing my point here: no one with a life COULD listen to every single album they havent heard before....theres just too much music out there, you gotta wittle it down somehow.

And yes, I listen to music for entertainment....I dont view it as "art" (Though once I grow wise as the members on here I might.....someday), not to say its not an art form. If it sounds good, I listen to it.....call it scratching the surface of the music medium, but I'm quite enjoying myself at the moment, if it aint broke dont fix it.

I get where this guy is coming from, he just isnt explaining himself very well.

I for one have never listened to a full WKD album but I have heard enough to know that there are probably other shows going on during his set that I would rather see.

I mean, if you have heard 5 songs by a band and didnt like any of them, why would you try whole albums?

That being said, based on recommendations from people who have similar taste in music as me I have spent hours listening to music I didnt initially like but it grew on me and now I like it. But I wouldnt do this for every single band because I actually like to enjoy listening to music I already like sometimes rather than constantly trying to strain myself to like more bands.
