 Under the radar
« Thread Started on May 15, 2009, 1:59am »

It seems that at every festival there are a few bands (usually lower tier ) that exceed yours/peoples expectations. For me last year it was Cold War Kids and Jamie Lidell , this year, I have a few hunches

Santigold - Shes got a few really good songs and if she comes out with lots of energy.. could be a good show ( this years MIA?)

The Walkmen- Heard that they're really good live

So if you know something everybody else doesn't ,or have a good feeling about any of the bands ,feel free to add your thoughts and opinions.....

I can definitely confirm that The Walkmen are great live. My only concern is that their sound is a little more suited to a small club than an outdoor amphitheater.

I'm also really excited to see The Dodos. Their songs are great and they seem like they would translate to a great live show.

This is one of the worst kept secrets around, but Fleet Foxes kill live. I missed them last year at Sasq but saw them in September. So amazing.

p.s. How awesome was Jamie Lidell?

I think Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band has a lot of potential.

This is too coincidental to not share.

Wrens are top 5 bands I had never heard of before the lineup was released, and even though I won't see them this next weekend, I still have listened to their album 6 times in the last 10 days. I kept thinking, "these guys sound like Hoobastank, I never realized I like Hoobastank?"

Then I was at the grocery store an hour ago, and I heard Hoobastanks one hit, and I'm further convinced they are the same band. I think I need to buy Hoobastanks Anthology.

Reason by Hoobastank = She Sends Kisses by Wrens.

You idiot. Wrens' album Meadowlands came before Hoobastank's Reason. Try looking up your facts before posting.

I stand corrected. I knew I hated Hoobastank. Cancelling purchase of Anthology.

I hear absolutely no similarity between those two songs.

It's been something like a month and a half since my last post on this forum and this little thread is a great reminder why:

1.) The notion that Cold War Kids were "under the radar" in any sense of the term last year. They were on the main stage, what the hell is wrong with you? Same goes for Santigold and The Walkmen. Do you spend all day every day listening to whatever shitty radio station your boss leaves on at work?

2.) Hoobastank and The Wrens, what the fuck?

THE PEOPLE ON THIS MESSAGE BOARD DEFY DESCRIPTION.

I'm interested to see how much easier it is getting from the Wookie to the Yeti this year. I'd prefer to catch as much of Dent May as possible, between Passion Pit and King Khan.

Ra Ra Riot is all I have to say... except... that I agree with the WTF about Hoobastank and the Wrens. Mentioning Hoobastank should be disallowed on this board

Interstateeight,

We are not all as blessed as you are to have the ability to keep up with the indie rock scene so fervidly.

How should we define you as a poster on this board? 'Indie Rock God' comes to mind, however I might prefer 'Indie Rock Princess'. If I meet you at Sasquatch, I sincerely hope you are wearing super tight jeans, coke-bottle black rimmed glasses and some sort of fedora. And a beard, because if you don't have a beard, well then I just don't think I could consider you authentic enough for this festival.

Personally I am looking forward to seeing 'the henry clay people', and 'heartless bastards'. Although they may no longer be considered under the radar by your standards, I was certainly happy with their late add-ons.

ha ha ha. Wow I think you just described half the people that will be at sasquatch. I too am looking forward to seeing Heartless Bastards. Good thing the have the first set at the main stage, this way it will be no problem getting right up front.

Do not call people dressed like this "emo kids " I made that mistake last year and got quite the tongue lashing . I was unfamiliar with what a "hipster" is, in my defense

Devotchka was under the radar for me, and Santigold was possible my favourite show. She is WAY better than MIA

I don't know how "under the radar" they are, but I hadn't heard Doves before Sasquatch, and I thought they were really good.
