I'm not going to tell you about Sigur Ros. I'm going to show you about Sigur Ros. Watch from the 10 minute mark onward, and if you are still undecided about watching THAT at the fucking GORGE, then god help you.
...and don't watch the 15 seconds and then turn it off. Allow the crescendo to build and build and build and then explode into that wall of sound that knocks you on your ass. I'll say again, WATCH FROM THE 10 MINUTE MARK UNTIL THE END OF THE VIDEO YOU ASSHOLES.
Holy balls. I hope they play like a 3 hour set....and I'm really looking forward to seeing Sigur Ros in an outdoor venue...at the GORGE

Jesus I can already tell Sigur Ros is going to give me some massive chills at the Gorge. I'm guessing they're gonna blow me away like Massive Attack did in 2010.

You're guessing right. I saw them last Summer at Edgefield near Portland (outdoor venue). Being outdoors fit the spirit of the music perfectly however, I wanted it to be LOUDER. The scenery and atmosphere of the Gorge is stupidly perfect for Sigur Ros. I kinda wanna watch from the hill and take it all in- like in 2007 when Bjork summoned Aeolus and he carried her voice up the hill through the wind and slammed it directly into my melting face. I just hope it will be loud enough from the hill. Anyone know if Edgefield has a reputation for being kinda quiet?

Quiet? I don't know what you mean. I was pretty close to the stage so I thought it was fine. How far back were you?

We were standing right next to the sound booth. Quiet probably isn't the most appropriate word but it defintely felt like it could/should have been louder.

Nah, this is a bit earlier than that. It's a fairly lo-fi recording of the tour after the split with Angels of Light came out. The band is just the four original members of the band (this was before Ryan went off to live in a monastery or whatever he did). I'd only heard the Self-Titled album before the show so I expected it to be a quiet folky affair. Instead they opened with this:
I was finally able to give this video a viewing at proper volume and OH MY GOODNESS. The Angels of Light split was my first exposure to Akron/Family, and this is actually the specific song that started my obsession. I've seen them do 'Raising the Spark' which is amazing, but I'm always holding out for this one.

Hearing this (specifically from 1:48 on) from the middle of the hill is the most memorable event for me so far in 5 years of Sasquatch. It was like her echoing voice filled the gorge with an immense tidal wave of sound that came up and smacked me in the face. I was stunned for a good 5 minutes after that song ended, sitting there like holy shit what did I just experience. I want to see Sigur Ros top that this year and think they can.

Nice writeup on John Talabot. Going to be one of these every month running up to the festival:
Quote:
So imagine this: Talabot manipulating a mess of drum machines and samplers on stage as the sun slowly dips into the Columbia River and before you even realize it, the vocals of “Sunshine” begin to eclipse a muddy heap of distortion and twinkling chimes and come to coalesce perfectly with the razor sharp kicks. You’ve been waiting for this moment of blissful satisfaction for the past hour and when it hits, it’s impossible not to get swept up in the moment. Patience pays off after all.
