 Can someone explain Primus?
« Thread Started on Feb 8, 2013, 8:48pm »

So I've never heard of Primus before, and everyone is so excited that I want to be excited about them too! but without context their music is very weird sounding, I think I might like it better if I knew why everyone else is so excited for them?

Their weirdness is their greatness. Also their musicianship is on par with the all-time greats. Listen to the bass. Claypool is doing that shit to a guitar. WITH HIS HANDS. He is the Jimi Hendrix of the bass guitar. 22 years worth of guitar magazines will back me up on that.

Led Claypool is the best bass player alive. And also the songs. They are so fucking good.

I admittedly had barely listened to Primus for no specific reason before the lineup announcement, now I love them and a 3D show sounds like it'd be mind blowing. I've always had a thing for "weird" bands and Les Claypool is a god, so...

Les Claypool has been labeled as one of the best bass guitarists of all time. He's #13 on this list -

That list is bullshit, because they put Paul Gray at #3. While he was a decent bassist, he might not even belong on that list. Also some of the other classic rock musicians are questionable. They write great songs, but don't do anything too fancy. Les should be lower on that list.
