I was just wondering if anyone has the same thoughts as me:
I think they are good......
but........
are they really headliner material? I just think for lack of a better or bigger band they were chosen. I'm aware they have sold out shows in new york and such , but im just not sold on a KOL headline.....
also did anyone notice that on the main page they are second billing ahead of NIN , Ben Harper and relentless7 and yeah yeah yeahs I just think thats a bit weird
what do you think?

As someone mentioned earlier...for better or worse, they're now headlining arena tours. At some point (this past summer really), they jumped from being just outside the mainstream to a huge act. They blew up in Europe first, but seem to have finally taken off here. Interesting for a band that sort of flew below the radar for awhile to suddenly take off like that, but it seems to be what happened.

it's probably one of two situations: a) they couldn't find or afford a more popular band to headline instead or b) they're hiding the real headliner several people on this board have also talked about being disappointed at them headlining. they're a decent band, but i'll probably skip them if there's anything interesting going on at the other stages.

I love KoL... but perhaps we're waiting on another name to drop that just couldn't be confirmed on time? PJ perhaps?

that would be absolutely amazing but unfortunately it's doubtful. they'd be something worth hiding for a while though if they did infact score PJ.

If they want people to buy a three day pass they will smart up and announce a bigger headliner for Monday. Explosions in The Sky I think will be a HUGE draw, but not enough to go all the way over to George haha... Even though I am going for all three days, most people aren't Sasquatchees like us.

I think a lot of us have followed the Kings of Leon since early in their career. Their sound has changed (some say for the worse, some for the better). I believe that many of us still see them as the raw indie garage band they were and fail to realize their place on the Billboard charts and radio airwaves. It's strange for sure but they've broken into the mainstream whether we like it or not. Similar to Death Cab they are no longer indie darlings but they are property of the public now.
Because of this, it's not to surprising that their success has brought them a headlining spot.

Shut the fuck up, you're aping The Gaslight Anthem as the closest thing we'll get to punk this year. What a dumb, meaningless, narrow statement.

I have to admit, I have no idea who Kings of Leon are. The name doesn't even ring a bell. Going back over the history of Sasquatch and headliners, first time ever.

KOL was just named as a headliner @ the Rock WercHter festival in belgium. If you have ever seen the headliners for that festival, its a big deal.
So I guess We may be the only ones in the world who think KOL isn't headlining material, but I guess they are.

The fact that a lot of people think Kings of Leon shouldn't be a headliner means they shouldn't be a headliner. It is not the quality of a band's show/music that makes a headliner, it's their ability to attract a wide audience. I've been to plenty of festivals where the headliners are far from being the most talented of the lineup. I saw part of KOL's set at Bonnaroo in 2007 (where they were billed nineteenth) they were quite good, but I just don't see how they would be put in a headliner spot at this point.
