I'd be surprised to see Jeff Mangum on the esurance Yeti Stage or Honda Bigfoot stage, if you get my drift. |

I said this so many times when people were predicting that he'd show up at Coachella, I definitely ate my words on that one.
I don't think he'll show up but who knows

That's true. Godspeed was an even bigger surprise. But coachella truly is a local, organic, non-corporate festival in every way, even if it's covered by the news like a global summit and celebs go to be seen.

Seeing Jeff Mangum play at the Crystal this year was one of the highlights of my concertgoing experiences, no doubt. He was so powerful. But I REALLY want to see him play with Jeremy Barnes, Julian Koster, & Scott Spillane as NMH. That would be truly unreal. I saw the Elephant 6 Holiday Surprise Tour when it came to Backspace in 2011 and that was mind blowing. All of the Elephant 6 people are such incredible musicians and it would really be a treat to have any of them in any form at Sasquatch this year. also, WHO ELSE IS BUYING TICKETS THIS WEEKEND???

I feel like I got the full NMH experience from that Mangum show at the Crystal. Spillane was there, which is ultimately more important than having Jeremy Barnes, and that dude from Elf Power was on hand to fill out the instrumentation when it became necessary.
The reason Jeff Mangum disappeared for a decade was that he is the kind of person who actively resists the kind of attention that would have come with allowing NMH to continue growing in popularity. If he were to tour and bill himself as Neutral Milk Hotel, it would be fucking huge at this point. But it would fundamentally be the same show that we saw.
The only reason Mangum has been touring at all is that he did a couple of (very small) performances on the East coast and witnessed first-hand just exactly how important those songs have become to people. It affects people deeply and individually, and that is the kind of thing the dude cares about and respects. So he did a couple more shows, and then he didn't want to exclude the people in this part of the country or that... I think it has already gotten much larger than he initially intended, and I am fairly certain that this next round of tour dates (scheduled in the armpits of states that he hasn't made it to so far) will be the last we see of him for a long time.
I just fucking wish Spillane had sang one or two more Gerbils songs in the opening set.

One time I thought Jeff Mangum's surname was Magnum. Okay, like all the time.

Truth. I can dream though...
I was a sophomore in high school when I first heard that album. Almost started crying. and weirdly enough (or maybe not, I guess) it was Holland 1945 that did it. What a lovely, lovely man he is.

When is it too early to start speculating about the weather? From what little information I've been able to wring out of the rumor mill, it's looking like everyone should get their rain gear ready.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say to expect weather. I mean, I know weather is always around and the santa clause could come into effect... but hey this is the rampant speculation thread.
