Make it a point to meet up with us at Sasquatch next year and you'll see why we suffer through the slow, irritable months leading up to Sasquatch full of bitching at each other.

The Flaming Lips? They have The Terror coming out next year as well as the King Crimson cover album. I suppose it's like wondering if Uncle Greg will show up for Thanksgiving at this point...

Also, How To Destroy Angels seems like a pretty legitimate possibility. They just put out a pretty good EP and have a full length due in the spring.

Ah, turns out it is a front-to-back cover of In the Court of the Crimson King, the first King Crimson record from 1969. It's an incredible record, and my second favorite King Crimson, but it is not really a guitar record. It's kinda sorta a concept album about the end of the world, and the style is more the pastoral British prog of the late 60's that the Decemberists were fucking in the ear with Hazards of Love than the guitar-driven prog of the mid to late 70's that King Crimson is generally known for.

It's kind of weird -- I am flipping between liking and hating it every thirty seconds. They have a bunch of different bands working on different tracks, so it's totally uneven. But there are some cool textures and some interesting ideas. I can't imagine why I would ever put it on instead of the original, but if it scoops up a couple of kids that Kanye missed and gets them to check out King Crimson then I see no harm. It's certainly not terrible.

I'd rather see Wayne climb up onstage and shove Legos up his ass than see him try to take on Discipline or Larks' Tongue in Aspic. That would just be embarrassing.

Yeah, it was fucking awful. Just like everything they've done since Yoshimi.

Who the fuck re-makes Dark Side of the Moon? It's like Gus Van Sant's shot-for-shot remake of Psycho, there is just no point. Dark Side of the Moon is the most perfect album ever recorded. Why anyone cares how it would sound if Wayne Coyne and his brother recorded it is beyond me.

You could say the same thing about this one, I guess, but as much as I love In the Court of the Crimson King (a LOT), it's not sacred in the way DSotM is.

Jesus, though, the title track from In the Court... is one of the most powerful, terrifying songs ever written. I don't know who is responsible for the rendition on the cover album, and I don't care. It is impossible to fuck this song up.

Embryonic is what every album would sound like if bands included every single song they demoed in the final tracklist and left them all half-finished. It was terrible.
