For the record, I am rarely if ever hungover, and I have never had a hangover that has persisted until the time that a show starts. I have never missed a show because of a hangover. Point A.
Point B, weed affects people differently, and while a single toke may be one toke over the line for you, a 'weed coma' is generally not something that I experience.
I may not know the names and personalities of the songwriters in Menomena, but they defiantly suffer from dual songwriter disorder. For every Lennon & McCartney or Flansburgh & Linnell there is a Murdoch & David, Krug & Boeckner or Doss & Hart: pairs of songwriters who have distinct styles that, while arguably are equally great, just do not fucking blend. This is the case with Menomena.
I know that we disagree on 'Evil Bee', we've discussed this. But while the remaining members of Menomena are equally talented musicians, singers and performers, they are not equal songwriters. 'Evil Bee' was just an example. What I liked about Menomena was what Knopf brought to the group -- the crooked, angular songwriting; those sudden changes of mood, tempo and key that reminded me of Beefheart. Whatever and whoever is left is overly concerned with the ponderous mid-tempo indie ballads that I know you are such a sucker for, but it's just not for me. Don't act like I can't tell the difference, and don't even call me out for not knowing their middle names when you can't even tell me which one's Deaner and which one's Gener.
However, this much is true:

Although it doesn't apply to Menomena. It is well-documented that I have no love for bands that shoot their babies and bury them out back. of Montreal's refusal to play any material that dates back for more than five years is exactly 50% of the reason that I can't fucking stand them anymore; the Decemberists only manage to ingratiate themselves with me anymore when they dust off 'Oceanside' or 'Odalisque', and I was dead set against Modest Mouse until I saw them play 'Baby Blue Sedan', 'Cowboy Dan', 'Wild Packs of Family Dogs' and 'Dramamine' all in one set.
The difference is those bands can play whatever they want, whereas I'm pretty sure Brent Knopf owns the legal rights to the songs he contributed to Menomena. I don't hold it against them that they don't play the songs that I want to hear, I just don't particularly care about the songs they CAN play.

Six paragraphs which have absolutely nothing to do with the point you are somehow trying to defend, which was, "Menomena sucks live." This isn't a private conversation held between a couple people in a room, this is a thread about the 2013 Sasquatch lineup which is going to be read by potentially hundreds of people, many of whom don't have the patience to comprehend more than three words at a time. People get a lot of their advice about what bands to check out because of hanging out on music message boards, and many don't know anything about Menomena. Some even respect your opinion, no matter how bizarre it can be. And "Menomena sucks live" is what you want them to know.
Menomena isn't a band with a giant tour bus, vacation homes on the beach, and expensive sports cars, this is band who can barely call being a musician a full-time job. This is a band who needs the support of their fans to afford creating music. This is a band who depends on word-of-mouth recommendations, just like every other lesser known band we try to support hoping they someday make it big.
Why do you even have a passion against illegally downloading music? One would guess it's because you feel musicians deserve a couple bucks here and there for creating music for us to enjoy. But now you're going on record basically saying, "Menomena doesn't deserve your money because they suck live. Thinking about going to see a Menomena show? Don't do it, save your loot and stay home and watch sitcoms instead. Thinking about going to see Menomena at Sasquatch? You should instead go watch the guy who twists a nob and pumps his fist because Menomena sucks live. They don't need your money or support. Avoid at all costs. In fact, you shouldn't buy their music either, I'll allow an exception to my rule against illegally downloading music, as long as you're downloading Menomena."
The worst part about your statement that "Menomena sucks live," is that your opinion isn't even based on their live performance. How do they suck live? Did they show up late and leave early? Did they spit beer on the crowd? Was the music out of sync? Were they too drunk to play? No, they are actually fantastic live musicians. You were just disappointed that the guy who wrote the song you like five years ago is no longer in the band, and once you realized they weren't going to play that song, you left early to catch the last bus home to avoid paying for a cab. How is that addressing their live performance in any way?

For the ticket price, I hope you're right about that. Soundgarden was lowest common denominator bullshit in the 90's, and they still are today. You have fun, though. And check your PMs for chrissakes.

A friend of mine says exactly the same thing about Menomena by the way. He says after Brent left it all went to pot. I haven't gotten into Menomena nor have I seen them live so I wouldn't know but he is equally passionate about this so you aren't alone.

Oh, I know I'm right. I just like arguing with wonk, and wonk likes arguing with me. My opinion of Menomena isn't going to make or break their career, and if it does then they've got bigger problems than the consensus of the unofficial Sasquatch! message board. I saw Menomena -- saw them with wonk, as a matter of fact -- and I wasn't impressed. They got chops, I'll give them that. But if I went to see any band that I like and they played a bunch of songs that I don't care about incredibly well, I would say that that band sucks.
of Montreal, for example. They're a tight outfit; you gotta have SOMETHING going if you're going to try to pull off music that complex, especially if you are primarily a funk band. But of Montreal fucking sucks live, and that is a stone-cold fact.
