I wouldn't be surprised if they were our Monday night headliner. Or Friday, and we can have Ambient Friday (Stars of the Lid, Brian Eno, and William Basinski in the tent). Or Post-Rock Friday (Godspeed subheadliners). Or Icelandic Friday (Bjorrito headliner).
A year later than requested, as per usual Snacks fashion, but I'll take it. |

I REALLY hope Sigur Ros headlines a night. After that near perfect show a few months ago at Edgefield, I can't imagine how amazing it would be at the Gorge.

That's good speculation right there. Borderline rumor territory.

Yeah, I'd still like to see them regardless. I missed them just a few weeks ago 'cause of work, so if this speculating turns to fact I'll be happy.

I moved to Portland within a month of the release of I Am the Fun Blame Monster, and I have bought every one of their records from the same shop on Hawthorne. You could say I'm a fan. Even so, I somehow managed to not see them until after Brent Knopf left the group, right around the time Mines came out. I was so fucking disappointed; I can't even tell you why. Sure enough, they play those songs and they sound like they do on the records, but for some reason it was just incredibly fucking boring. I left early, and I never do that.
wonk disagrees with me on this, but I think Knopf was the soul of that band. If you see them live, don't hold out hope to hear any of the songs he wrote (including 'Evil Bee', which is my personal favorite).
Also I think that Mines and Moms are both really fucking dull. So there's that too.

It definitely does if you say it the way I originally did when I first stumbled on them: men-o-men-a
But it was a real lightbulb moment the first time I heard someone say their name properly: me-nom-a-na (like the muppets)

I don't know what that means so I'm still saying it the gay way.

Even though this is totally plausible, keep in mind that local bands often wait to announce local shows until later. Menomena probably knows people at every venue in Portland and Seattle and could book a show in a day, it's the rest of the country that takes a lot of work.

I completely agree that they're not great live now that Knopf is gone but I saw them on the tour right before Knopf left and it was really good. I like Mines a lot which probably helped but they were much worse just a few months later.

This is so far off, I can't even comprehend. This is HG saying, "I was really hung over, and I couldn't get out of a weed coma enough to appreciate anything that wasn't my favorite Brett Knoff song, or anything off their last two albums because I never listened to them." HG made it clear he doesn't know which singer is which on the only album he's listened to, so his opinion is far from valid.
Menomena is great live. It's three guys who all sing equally, and play multiple instruments per song. I wish I could see musicians this talented who are able to loop their sounds to make the 'ten person band' seem coherent. Their drummer is one of the strangest but coolest song writers I've experienced. HG wouldn't know, because he only likes one song.
I have no idea what you are aiming for here HG? You just showed your cards, and those cards are, "I only like bands when they play the old songs I like. Great live bands don't interest me unless I like them."

I can't believe you would go on record saying one of Portland's favorite live bands sucks because, "you only like one song."
