i'm not really all about mars volta myself, but i hope they're added. i love at the drive-in (father of mars volta) and i like sparta (the other spawn of drive-in), but mars volta isn't easy to get into. eriatarka and the widow are fairly accessible...also try listening to the entirety of deloused in the comatoreum. they're very strange though...

Mars Volta is like if you took ATDI, put them on drugs and mixed in a jazz band and some latin influence. If you listen to ATDI, that rock/alternative sound became Sparta and that experimental bizarre sound got turned up to 11 and is Mars Volta.

Quote:| Weird that they'd do Portland, then Vancouver, then Seattle..you'd think Seattle and Vancouver would be flipped. |

It is actually quite common. A lot of bands do go from Portland to Vancouver to Seattle. I have no idea why...

Check out Deloused In the Comatorium. That album is incredible. Or Francis The Mute. Both are amazing albums, and either are a good starting point. Their last two albums, Apmutechture and Bedlam in Goliath aren't great... but they are still a phenomenal live act.

Here's something I'd like to know. Can someone please explain the appeal of M.I.A.? I've listened to her music on MySpace and watched the music video for 'Bird Flu' last year before she cancelled. Tonight I decided to listen to her stuff again and other than being on the verge of a massive seizure from all the blinking stuff on her website and myspace, I don't understand why she's such a big deal.

I think it started off as a novelty thing - or at least that is what it was for me. I remember hearing stuff in '03 (the "Piracy Funds Terrorism" album) which was a bootleg, and sampled (illegally) all of these well known songs. It was kind of brazen. Then, it was "cleaned up" for the official release (Arular) - same songs, but different music, but still good because it was pretty old school (listen to "Bucky Done Gun" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBfXxCsKBXc for an example). I think people like it because of how danceable it is, which doesn't always translate into good listening on its own.
Her recent stuff doesn't do much for me.

Agreed. I saw her twice last year and she's just not my cup of tea.
MGMT are fun, but it's a very Spinal Tap kind of fun.

I really hope Grand Archives gets a good reception.
Matt Brooke has quite an impressive resume with Carissa's Wierd and Band Of Horses first album amongst others.
They're not quite "Rockin" but brilliant songs!

You can add Foals to the list of bands that could be added
05-22 San Francisco, CA - Pop Scene 05-24 West Hollywood, CA - The Troubadour 05-25 San Diego, CA - Brick by Brick 05-28 Portland, OR - Doug Fir Lounge 05-29 Vancover, British Columbia - Richard's on Richards 05-30 Seattle, WA - Neumos
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/49160-foals-add-dates-open-for-rem
Also they are opening for R.E.M. in London, so that is another connection (although they would have to be playing on Monday rather than Saturday)

My comedian guesses are: David Cross Patton Oswalt Zach Galifianakis Maria Bamford Eugene Mirman Neil Hamburger (hopefully)
My guesses are based on the NW-ness of the Comedians, their affiliation with indie record labels (sub pop, drag city) and in turn their affiliation with one another. Plus my own personal hopes and desires.

Eugene Mirman makes sense since he is on Flight of the Conchords. I believe Flight of the Conchords CD is on Sub Pop, which would make sense for David Cross (who has MC'd Sasquatch! before) and Patton Oswalt too because they are on Sub Pop. Brian Posehn is doing Bonnaroo, it seems like Janeane Garaofolo (sp?) would be a possibility, she is always around it seems. I think Chris Rock is playing somewhere else during Sasquatch! so I don't think he is possibilty, plus he is huge as is Dane Cook, a tent would be too small. I'm sure it will be sweet, whoever shows up.

Decemberists are about a 60-70 percent chance right now. Both bands they're playing with in Oregon are on the bill for the same day, they've got the big PNW connection, and I'm "hearing" things, so...
