 The Decemberists are In

Looking at the newly released tour dates, it leaves May 23rd wide open for them as Sasquatch. Dont think they would be the headliner that day, but who knows

I literally just got an email that they're playing in my town on May 29th and I said to my girlfriend "that's one band I can't get into." I've listened to most of their stuff but meh, doesn't do it for me.

Its music that I don't listen to everyday, its very theatrical, like listening to a play

They put on a great show though!!

I remember seeing the Decemberists in '06 and thinking "what's so great about these guys??" Three years later I love their new album. It's funny how your tastes change. I also saw DCFC in '06 and thought they were the greatest thing since sliced bread, and during last years DCFC performance, I found myself wondering "what the hell was it that I liked about these guys???"

Awesome. Guessing they'd be billed 3rd or 4th on Saturday. They'd be a decent "sunset" band, and they have a good mix of energetic pop songs, as well as some great folk ballads as well.

I like The Decemberists and I'll be happy to see them at Sasquatch, but no way they're going to headline.

I've passed on them at a few different festivals, and never really took the time to listen to them. The new single "The Rake's Song" is a really, really great song though. I'd probably check them out (finally) if there weren't other conflicts.

Good but I'm about when they're coming to Montana. That really isn't the best idea in terms of getting people to either one.

I live in Portland, attend 40 shows a year, and Sasquatch annually, yet I have never heard a single Decembrists song (that I know of). I see them as a subheadliner this year, meaning I have a decent chance of checking them out, so maybe I should attempt to get into their music. I have four of their albums from a friend. Anyone have a favorite, or know the album they tend to play live more than others?

Crane Wife
Her Majesty
Train
Castaway and Cutouts

Its "Tain" btw, not Train. Its a short EP, but is one long song(about 15 minutes). Its one of their more artsy epics. I like it a lot.

Crane Wife is a peculiar album. When I first listened to it, I straight up hated it, even though I was a big fan of the band at the time. About a month later, I relistened to it, and started to like it. It grows on me with each listen. "The Perfect Crime #2", "O, Valencia", "The Crane Wife 1+2" and "Sons and Daughters" are my favorite tracks. You should hunt down the bonus tracks. They're all pretty quality.

Her Majesty the Decemberists is pretty good. Its pretty early stuff, and their song style has changed and matured since then. "Billy Liar", "The Chimbley Sweep", and "Red Right Ankle" are my favorites.

C+C is another early album. Out of their full albums, its my least favorite(not that I don't like it, but its just not as good as their others). Grace Cathedral Hill is my favorite song off of it.

If you like some of those albums(especially HMtD), I'd hunt down Picaresque. Its the album that came out right before The Crane Wife. Its kinda poppy, but pretty folky as well. Flows incredibly, and not a weak track on it. Also, the 5 songs EP is pretty nice. Their new EPs (the "Always the Bridesmaid" series) is really good, IMO. Those are up on Ichunes.

As far as what they'll play, I can only assume it'll be a lot of newer stuff, since they have an album(The Hazards of Love) coming out March 24th. You can download a song(The Rake's Song) off their official website for a limited time. Its pretty good.

Wow, that's a very thorough analysis haha.
I'd say Picturesque is probably their most well known/well received album.

I am praying that they will play "The Island, Come and see, The Landlord's Daughter, You'll not feel the drowning," it's unlikely since the song is 13 minutes long, but it is incredible.

I wouldn't say it's unlikely because of the length -- I've seen them play it twice. I'd say it's unlikely because they are going to be supporting the shit out of their new album.
