 2009 Headliners
« Thread Started on Jan 31, 2009, 2:57pm »

With the lineup a couple days away, here are the front runners. I will keep this first post updated as we find out more information. Feel free to offer suggestions and additions to the list as well.

Drunk Recent Divorcee Sitting Alone at the End of the Bar (Favorites):
Nine Inch Nails - No longer using the full on Lights in the Sky tour that was so unreal, but they still will put on a crazy light show if they attend. They also headlined Sasquatch 06, and are heading to Bonnaroo in June. There is always that "we will be playing ampitheaters" quote from a recent article.
Oasis - Rumored to be touring with Weezer in May
Jane's Addiction - Recently reunited, and a rumored tour, possibly with NIN?

Friend of a Friend Who is Mildly Insane But Easy On the Eyes (Possibilities):
Neil Young - Has played festivals in the past, was rumored to play Coachella this year.
Beastie Boys - Playing Bonnaroo, headlined Sasquatch 07. Popular pick as a headliner recently on this board.
Kanye West - Played Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza recently, so it appears he likes festivals. He also played Sasquatch 05, before he was headliner status. Very unlikely he headlines though.
Green Day - Fits the mold of a Sasquatch headliner. Many people had a liking to their 90s music, and past headliners included nostalgic bands an attendee might not pay a lot to see individually.
Ben Harper and Relentless7 - Headlined Sasquatch 06 (sort of, hail storm cause the Flaming Lips to play after Ben Harper). Currently on tour.

Supermodels (You'll be bragging for years if you land one):
Pearl Jam - NW band yet to play Sasquatch. Headlined Bonnaroo last summer.
Radiohead - Still touring through March.
Pavement - Stephen Malkmus lives in the NW.
Rage Against the Machine - Probably doesn't fit the Sasquatch vibe.
Tool - Do not appear to be doing much of anything these days
Blur - Shows in London in July being promoted as the first reunion show, although they were rumored to headline Coachella.
Arcade Fire - Played Sasquatch 05 and Sasquatch 07. Every other year?

Diseased Ridden Crack Whores (No one wants them):
No Doubt - Some topical cream and a new outlook on life, this Crack Whore is looking to make a jump to Friend of a Friend status. If the tour dates posted are accurate, a Sasquatch stop could happen Monday, May 25th. They play Vancounver the 24th, and Calgary the 26th. An eleven hour drive to Calgary from the Gorge on a tour bus in the middle of the night is not impossible.
Jack Johnson - Go away, please.
Dave Matthews Band - Recently acquired full blow AIDS and a sore throat. Adding to the doubt they will attend is that they often fill up the Gorge during Labor day. This could be attributed to the high Greek population in cities like Pullman, Seattle, Eugene, Moscow, and Corvallis.

Slump Busters-Subheadliners Who Could Headline (But your friends are going to make fun of you when they find out):
Decembrists - Have not been on the lineup since Sasquatch 06, and are basically confirmed.
Weezer - Rumored May tour with Oasis
Kings Of Leon - Confirmed, but will they headline? I hope not.

Catholic Nuns (No chance, no matter how sexy it would be):
Morrissey/The Smiths - Morrissey in England, May 23-25
Depeche Mode - In Poland/Latvia May 23-25
Wilco - In Spain May 23-29
Fleetwood Mac - Has Monday, May 25th open, but is playing in Arizona the night before.
Phish - Will be playing two shows at the Gorge this summer, but it will be after their east coast swing.

A+ thread, though I'd recommend pooping Dave Matthews Band down one category.

I think one of the headliners should be CAKE! They have been around forever and they are super fun. Also, Radiohead, or maybe Pearl Jam.....Tom Petty or The Police would be awesome but that probably won't happen.

I think some would argue that Dave Matthews Band should be moved down two spots to Diseased Ridden Crack Whores, and I don't think they are Supermodel status. I think I'll keep them in the Friends of Friends for now. We'll see what others think. I can always move them around in the near future, or add a new category for them. I'm thinking of the Seinfeld episode with the girlfriend who is either very ugly or extremely attractive depending on the lighting.

My thought was for this to be an accurate portrayal of who the board thinks will headline, rather than strictly a wish list, so more emphasis is put on bands with NW ties, or bands that are currently touring, or may in the near future. After all, I made this list based on the suggestions in the Lineup thread, with a couple of my personal thoughts added.

Speaking of the lineup thread, I like the mention of Fleetwood Mac as a possibility, so I am adding them. I think Sasquatch would make some noise announcing them as a headliner, and I wouldn't mind seeing them at all. I can't imagine a large percent of us actually loathe this band? If they don't play Seattle/Spokane/Portland/Vancouver shows, I think Sasquatch will pull in a big crowd for them, like the Cure last year (even though that was a make up show).

As for Cake, I have added them to the Disease Ridden Crack Whores, thank you for the suggestion niscal20. (kidding, as fun as they might be though, they are not near headliner status).

Oasis/Weezer as a headliner would be really awesome.

Give me a day to spend in Seattle.

I agree! There's no way they will play during Sasquatch! They are way too big in the NW and already have an annual gorge fest.

It seems odd to me that people would get all bent about Dave Matthews (which for the reason stated, they already have their own three-day at the end of summer, won't happen) and think that Fleetwood Mac would be cool. Maybe back before they added the chicks, but they are just another pop band now. They could actually be a deal-breaker for me, at least for one night.

At the time of release i hated the Fleetwood Mac album and Rumours, and the Buckingham-Nicks edition was/is my least favourite edition of the band. However over time i have grown to better appreciate those albums, although i will not shell out $200 to see their show at GM Place in Vancouver. If they were a Sasquatch headliner i wouldn't mind, but i can't see it happening at all as they are already doing Vancouver and Tacoma in mid May, and have dates Sasquatch weekend in California and Arizona.

It seems to me that the headliners are going to be:

No Doubt- on there website it says they are touring festivals and out door amphitheaters starting in may and it's being produced by live nation, obviously that's not a confirmation but if i was a betting man i could see them headlining sunday. I'm not a huge fan of there music but i still think they would be a band that at least would put put up a entertaining show. As a side note my prediction is that Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be on before them (no clue if they will be there but i liked the idea of having two female lead singers follow each other).

Kings of Leon: there is a lot of rumors surrounding them and i guess i could stand listening to "Sex on Fire". After headlining Glastonbury they are now more than qualified to be in the head lining spot. I could see them doing a Saturday. Something like PB & J will "open" for them.

No idea on the third headliner, although as much as i hate the idea of this, it would not surprise me to see a 2 day sasquatch this year although thats just a wild guess.

Shit. Does that mean it's likely or not likely? Assuming this is accurate. 1 is apparently not accurate and I don't see these dates elsewhere.

Horrible headliner choice, obviously.

Unlikely, I think. Why would they play the same market (Seattle, Vancouver) AND a festival in one weekend? Oversaturation much?

If they headline the 25th, I guess I could head home early. ;D
