Alex's board suicide of the day (a tribute)
Nickelback holds some nostalgia value for me, and every once in awhile I listen to 'Worthy to Say' and 'Leader of Men' for that very reason. I blame it on growing up in rural Alberta.
Honestly if it started playing on the radio I wouldn't change the station, which is more than I can say about a lot of other, more commonly liked bands.

In terms of not taking music seriously, I totally think Mac Miller has a brain dead infectiousness going on that I can enjoy, while Gambino has very little to nothing I can enjoy.
I would also like to try and establish some form of precedent on this "You're not supposed to take his/her/their music seriously. That's the point". This defense has become so bastardized and irks me to no end lately on how it seems to be the automatic fall back for anyone justifying terrible music that is also saying terrible things.
When you say, "The point of the material is that you are not supposed to take it serious", you are very right. That is a thing that totally happens. What you are referring to is an art form. It's based on irony and an artist being self-aware about the material they are writing about. Usually there is an end goal that we as the audience are all aware of why they have implemented this form of art.
It is probably one of the hardest themes to execute well. It takes major talent as you are walking a very fine line between entertainment, knowing shock value, commentary, and creativity. Leaning too much in any one direction can completely send this art into the world of ham fisted shlocksville.
When it works, it is fantastic! That's why I love artists like Madlib doing Quasimoto or that one of my favorite artists of all time is Frank Zappa. If I took music too seriously, how on earth could I even stomach 5 seconds of these guys. The easy answer is that they are talented and execute their craft with a porpoise that is beyond simply standing in front of a crowd and waiving a dead cat around on a stick with the one dimensional intention of "look at me doing something crazy and shocking" with the added hopes that people will flock and say, "Holy shit that person's waiving a dead cat around on a stick!". The worst part of artists that do this shit is when they seem to relish in laughing at people who take issue with the fact that "All you are doing is waiving a dead cat around on a stick, pfff." and then incorporate in their personality or worse yet (like Gambino) in their work "Fuck all y'all who think I'm serious waiving around this dead cat on a stick", meanwhile their arms are furiously committed and dedicated to waiving that stick as hard as they can. That is when the porpoise is clearly entering the territory of attention seeking. Be it intentional or not. This is them fumbling with their art and coming back with the ever mature retort of flashing you the middle finger when you say, "I'm not trying to say I think you're serious, I'm trying to say you are very bad at what you are doing and possibly getting too serious about not being serious which is embarrassing to watch". It's also not fun.

I'm bowing out of this conversation because FD has infinitely smarter things to say than I do.

I have no idea how tickets are still available. I thought they'd be gone within a week, and it's been a month now. I know there's the theory of them increasing the venue capacity somehow, but it couldn't have been increased THAT much.
