It's not that it's bad for you to laugh, but it still is a childish immature one-liner, as you've said, at the end of the day. So it is what it is and what it is doesn't have much merit beyond a snicker.

I think he has more merit than he is given in that review, even if its an underwhelming 5/10. I'm just saying I'll be at his show barring conflicts and I think it will be fun as long as he's not a shitty performer.

Admitting that he is worth a snicker is at least more than that article who calls his jokes 'cringe-worthy'. To each their own I guess.

I've said before in another thread that he admittedly is a really good performer, but I can't stand his stuff to want to watch. If you dig, you'll probably be pretty impressed.

Like I said before, if Childish Gambino wasn't Donald Glover I would probably hate him too. But he's not THAT bad. Before Pitchfork's review came out, everyone was like, "Hey this Childish Gambino guy is pretty awesome". But after the 1.6 everyone was like, "Wait... we... don't like him? Well if that's what Pitchfork said I guess we have to go with that." The thing is, you DON'T take his music seriously. Most of the complaints seem to be coming from the people who think his act his 100% srs bsns. He's just a fun hip hop artist in general. There's nothing really good about him, but nothing bad either. STOP TAKING THINGS SO SERIOUSLY GUYS.

Also, I think it's hilarious that Pitchfork was so butthurt in that review that they decided that the album was worse than St. Anger. ST. ANGER. It'd have to be a REALLY bad album to score lower than that, but seriously it's not that bad.

All this Childish Gambino talk makes me think I should check him out. If there is one thing I'm good at, it's not taking things seriously.

He lured me into buying his album regardless of the rating from Pitchfork. I think he is hilarious and I thought his first single was alright. I listened to it 3 times and about half of a 4th time and decided to take it back and sell it to Everyday. It was worth getting $6 back to put towards something I would listen to. Not a fan.

Yeah Camp was pretty disappointing. I actually loved his EP that came out before it, but the album was a lot different.

All of his stuff before Camp is free to download on his site. Atleast it was. Not sure if it's still there.

Yep. I read Pitchfork reviews all the time, but ffffck use your own judgement from time to time. It's just a guy typing in an office, not the be all and end all of music.

Ditto to pretty much everything FD said.

This idea that the only reason anyone hates Gambino is because of Pitchfork is absurd. I can't speak for anyone else, but I was listening to him like 3 years ago (i was there). Some of my friends and I got really into the song get like me from the trailer for Mystery Team and sought out his stuff. Sick Boi was alright at the time but everything he released got worse and worse. Culdesac was where he started developing the persona he has now and it's also where I lost interest. The I am just a Rapper EP's were even worse. While I liked the idea of him rapping over indie songs, the results were not enjoyable in anyway.

I'm not trying to knock his work ethic, there is no doubt that he's dedicated a lot of time and effort into his work. I'm just not convinced he has anything that interesting to say.

Exactly. I haven't even read the review. The music is just that glaringly terrible.

If I want to listen to hip hop that's entertaining and that I shouldn't take seriously I'll listen to Lil B or Waka Flocka. Childish Gambino is awwwful.
