 Rampant speculation thread! (2012)
« Thread Started on Dec 12, 2011, 7:54pm »

Alright, after all the hate that talk of Santa Clauses (Yes virginia, they do exist), $$$, and billing gets in the other topics, this one is designed specifically for just that.

Want to point out which bands won't be there cause they're playing in March? This is the topic!

Want to argue pointlessly about which bands have restrictions on playing Seattle before the show (pro-tip: it's all of them), this is the topic!

Want to have me create a rough sketch of where a band will be billed because of relative popularity and cost? this is defiantly the topic.

To get us started, Of Montreal won't be there cause they're playing Seattle in March

Conversely, EMA looks more likely because they're playing the midwest in March and have no west coast shows except in their hometown.

other bands with Seattle shows between Feb and May: Los Campesinos, mutemath, Dr Dog, Cursive, Die Antwoord, Cloud Nothings, Punch Brothers, Kaiser Chiefs, Sharon Von Etten, Bowerbirds, Young the Giant, Andrew Bird, Band of Skulls, Metronomy, Gotye, Kasabian, Bear in Heaven, Coldplay, Justice, M83, Neon Indian, The Twilight Sad, cults

If you find anymore you want me to add, let me know and I'll update it.

My personal thoughts on Santa Clauses: The generic contract for Sasquatch (along with all other big festivals) include them. These are loosely enforced provisions simply to ensure that the bands on your lineup don't overload the market before your festival. In Sasquatch's case, this mostly means that the bands that play both Coachella and Sasquatch can't tour Seattle in April and then come back a month later for Sasquatch. There will be a few bands that play shows in Seattle before Sasquatch but it won't be a significant number. This year I'm going to try to keep a more exhaustive list of bands playing Seattle between the lineup announcement and Sasquatch so that we have a better idea for next year.

alright that's more than enough for now. If you want to argue about any of this stuff, please do! Assuming anyone else posts in here, this is going to look a lot like the Coachella board. If that's not your thing, just avoid the topic. I think speculating about this stuff is a ton of fun (and hopefully others do too) so I wanted a topic to post all sorts of completely unsubstantiated guesses

Further released some east coast only dates today that end in March/Canadian April. They would be an absolutely beautiful Monday night closer.

This is about the only jam band I'd be excited to see. I'm behind this idea

Word. I'd wildly speculate that it is a long shot as Sasquatch has never gone with any classic Jam band in its past, and if Furthur were to play they would obviously (speculatively) be headlining.

Yeah it'd definitely be a weird booking but I have absolutely no clue where they're going with headliners this year.

All I can say about the RHCP is thank the gods they haven't announced any tour dates that open them up to anything smaller than outrageously wild speculation, which is not the type of speculation we're kind to dealin' with in these here parts.

They better not fuckin' play here. I wasn't super stoked about the Foos, but at least they are a great live band, whose songs I know and most importantly they have all the core members intact to justify me saying to myself, "Whatever, it will be a fun time."

The thread title should be "THREAD FOR FEST HEADS, NO MODS ALLOWED."

There are almost no bands I'd like to see on the lineup less than the chili peppers. I can't stand anything about that band. I'd be infinitely more excited about about a Coldplay set

Seattle Rock Orchestra performing Avenged Sevenfold performing Radiohead. Unfortunately we are moving farther away from having Radiohead at Sasquatch.

I mentioned this as a joke a month or two ago, but with todays news of the dissolution of Grinderman and Nick Cave apparently going back to work on bad seeds stuff...how weird would Nick Cave be at Sasquatch?
