 J Mascis
« Thread Started on May 16, 2011, 1:26pm »

Hey guys, I'm super excited about seeing J Mascis live....but does anyone know what kind of set he's going to be doing? The reason why I ask is because people somehow knew that the Flaming Lips set would be mostly from The Soft Bulletin album, maybe theres some inside info floating around about J Mascis. I've been listening to a lot of his stuff and theres a lot of different styles of music, it could be Dinosaur Jr, J Mascis + the Fog, J Mascis from his current albums....or this:

Any other discussion about how awesome J Mascis is on this topic is welcome, anyone seen him live before?

The Flaming Lips will be playing Soft Bulletin in its entirety, which they've been doing for a while now, and it was advertised like that - no special insider info. So we really have no idea what J Mascis will play but listen to his most recent solo album for ideas.

on his recent tour he was playing the majority of the new album and a couple dino jr classics. I'd expect about the same. This was his setlist in Minneapolis:

J Mascis' Setlist:
Thumb
Listen To Me
Several Shades Of Why
Circle Of Friends (Edie Brickell)
Ocean In The Way
Get Me
Not The Same
Not Enough (w/Kurt Vile)
Make It Right (w/Kurt Vile)
Ammaring
Flying Cloud
Can I
Not You Again
Is It Done
Quest (Encore)
The Wagon (Encore)
Little Furry Things (Encore)

i tried to find the article, but i have to go to work. Pitchfork talked about his performance at another large venue. In what I remember, the article said he initially seemed small and alone on the stage with such a mellow sound. Later, he started wailing out some solos and stuff and it seemed more natural. Maybe I'll find the article later.

I hope he's good. I've been a big fan for a long time.

It breaks my heart that I'll probably miss him for wolf parade. :(

Is this a bad idea? I just can't imagine J with an acoustic being super nuts.

I'm bummed, but I'm making the same decision.

Stamper, I have a solution for you.

See all of Wolf Parade. Enjoy it. Come to Hopscotch, drag Cat with you, see a full J Mascis club set. Problem solved.

My excitement is worth taking the hit for a Napoleon Dynamite reference.
