I hope they give them enough time to play more than the Soft Bulletin. As good as that album is, a Flaming Lips concert wouldn't seem complete to me without Yoshimi, the WAND, She Don't Use Jelly, and Do You Realize.

It does say The Soft Bulletin "and more" so I am sure we will get at least a couple of others. I know they always play Do You Realize, but that song still makes me cry every time I hear it so it is ok. I can't wait to see them again. At the UFO show at Sasquatch they had over ten thousand people become silent and wave peace signs when Wayne asked them to and it was magical.

Set-list from December 31st show in Oklahoma City. This obviously wasn't a festival set.
1. The Fear 2. Worm Mountain 3. Silver Trembling Hands 4. Excerpt From the Firebird Suite 5. She Don't Use Jelly 6. The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song 7. In The Morning of the Magicians 8. I Can Be a Frog 9. Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Pt. 1 10. See the Leaves 11. Laser Hands 12. The Ego's Last Stand 13. Pompeii Am Götterdämmerung 14. Do You Realize?? 15. Auld Lang Syne (Galen Behr & Robert Burns cover) 16. The Process
The Soft Bulletin 17. Race for the Prize 18. A Spoonful Weighs A Ton 19. The Spark That Bled 20. The Spiderbite Song 21. Buggin' 22. Slow Motion 23. What Is the Light? 24. The Observer 25. Waitin' For A Superman 26. Suddenly Everything Has Changed 27. The Gash 28. Feeling Yourself Disintegrate 29. Sleeping on the Roof
The Soft Bulletin is just about an hour long. I imagine it'll take them more than an hour to get through the Soft Bulletin set. Throw in a half hour of Wayne talking politics and we're done.

I still don't get why Modest Mouse is headlining and I am a pretty big fan. Hopefully the Lips pull a Pavement and play significantly longer than their allotted time slot, but I doubt that. Last time I saw them, Wayne Coyne said they couldn't play more cause "the whales needed to sleep.

I am more of a Modest Mouse fan than I am a Flaming Lips fan and I totally agree with you. The Flaming Lips fit the headliner style more so than MM. I can't complain though, they are both great and will be unbelievable back to back.

Quoting this from another thread, just because it matches the recent discussion in this thread.
I follow the ticket scene in Portland pretty closely, and think a lot of music fans don't realize the regional factor in selling tickets. Yes, there are several factors that contributes to a show selling out (price, exclusivity, venue, day of the week, etc.). To be simplistic about it, let's just ignore those factors, and go for venue capacity v. sellout.
Edgefield: capacity 5,000. Death Cab For Cutie sold out, pretty quick too. Flaming Lips didn't sell out. My Morning Jacket didn't sell out. One could argue that DCFC is a bigger draw in the NW than MMJ, even though MMJ was the top billed act on last year's lineup.
The Schnitz: capacity 2,800. Wilco sold out the venue in a day. They would have sold out Edgefield, easily. By comparison, it took the Flaming Lips a full week to sell out the 1,500 capacity Roseland the year before. Those tickets were about the same price too.
Crystal Ballroom: capacity 1,500. Modest Mouse sold out four nights in a row (and five nights in a row six years ago). Even though a lot of people went to multiple shows, I think that would indicate they could sell out Edgefield, capacity 5,000.
In summary, we are overestimating the Flaming Lips draw in the NW, and underestimating the draw of DCFC, Wilco, and Modest Mouse.

The public's reaction to Arcade Fire's Grammy made me realize just how little I actually know about popular music and its role in people's lives.

Did it make you care more? I contemplated quoting your post and striking out know and replacing it with care, but then I thought, well, you might care.

We are listening to The Moon and Antarctica right now and I am realizing that I am an asshole and forgot how much I truly love Modest Mouse. I am guilty of backlash and nostalgia and I really hope they bring it and play an awesome set.

Yeah, sorry, that's the hive mind. We seriously just had a Modest Mouse epiphany in our living room. And that is not a euphemism.
