3 days have passed since the lineup dropped on us. Now that we've all had a little time to let it sink in, analyze the list, and check into some new names, what are you impressions? Has your opinion changed since your initial reaction? Are you more or less excited than you were before Sunday?
As usual (and expected), the Facebook page is flooded with people crying and complaining about EVERYTHING. Unlike last year, however, other than a few negative initial responses this forum has really seemed to bond together in excitement despite the understandable individual disappointments. It's a really awesome thing to see and I've got to say that I'm already looking forward to this year much much more than last year, and I didn't think that was possible.
Maybe it was all of the madness happening at the launch party mixed with feelings of being more of a reporter rather than a spectator, but the lineup literally passed through one ear and out the other for me. I don't think it was until yesterday that a lot of the artists on the bill finally started sinking in for me. Hell, it wasn't until this morning while listening to "The Soft Bulletin" that I finally stopped and thought to myself, "HOLY SHIT, this is going to be phenomenal live!" Especially being a Flaming Lips live virgin, this will be one of my most anticipated acts. For the long time Sasquatch veterans, I really do understand how underwhelming the headliners might seem. And being one of the idiots who actually held out hope for Radiohead or Daft Punk, I too was a little sad when I first saw the lineup. I really do enjoy Modest Mouse, but I'm not really into Death Cab, and yes, Wilco does put me in comas, but I do see where AZ was coming from with this one and I hope everyone else can at least appreciate the notion behind it.
So long story short for me, I'm absolutely thrilled about the fest this year for many different reasons. A large portion of that I owe to all of you guys for some fun, engaging, and interesting discussion. 95% of my "real life" friends will never understand my passion for music, or all of the "weird shit" I listen to for that matter, so it's great to have this medium for me to come and express myself with some damn fine like-minded people. Here's too a fucking awesome Sasquatch 2011 and hopefully some great times with some of you in May!
Jesus Christ, I don't know how that snowballed into the manifesto of Peatrick, but there you have it...
Also, I know I don't have to tell any of you to do your homework, but I've discovered some absolute gems in this year's undercard. Where Sasquatch might lack in star power it once again hits a home run in talent and quality.

I guess I'll change the title of the lineup opinion I'm writing. Seriously, you almost nailed it word per word.
I'm guessing you typed that intro on your phone? And speaking of which, what is the point paying $3 for that phone app. I can post on the boards just fine without the app?

My friends don't understand the music I listen to either. But my friends have never made it all the way through an album before, let alone the hundreds of listens I put into some albums. My friends either like it or not, within the first 30 seconds of the first track, they do not believe in growers. My friends think that I'm a music snob, because I don't like the music on local radio, or at the club. My friends don't understand having a song, or an album, or an artist, or a genre change your life. This is precisely the reason I come here, because I know you guys feel the same way as I do about music.
When the lineup was released I was initially disappointed, and it sure didn't help having a room full of people to answer to, as to why I convinced them to buy their tickets. I am sure many of you were initially taken aback by the lineup as I was. It wasn't until reading some of your guys' posts that I realized it doesn't matter how much my friends are impressed by the lineup. That is not what Sasquatch is about. Sasquatch is about the experience. I am now so excited bout this year, and am currently ravaging through the under card, and as Peatrick said, there are some absolute gems.
Edit: sorry for this rant, my friends just made me feel like shit for making them buy tickets to a fest without "headliners" as they put it.

The app is nice because it organizes unread threads for you and just looks considerably cleaner. That being said, I didn't pay for mine because my phone is jailbroken.

Nah, I'm home from work now. I'm a delivery driver and spend most of my day sitting in a parked van, so for me the app is totally worth it. If you have consistent computer access then I wouldn't bother.

Maybe next year we can be spectators and we can have someone in the forum do the lineup announcement
Ever since I started looking at the lineup, I went somewhere along the line of "Holy shit. Look at all this cool bands". While I do admit that I had less of a sense of "WOW", even my initial response was far far from disappointment. And now that I've dug into some of these bands (Especially the bands in the Banana Shack), I'm getting more and more excited about this. The fact that tickets are selling so well is just adding to the excitement.
I am different in that I have friends that listen and appreciate music like I do. But I do admit, the people that spends time on this board/helping people out on the FB page are the true Sasquatch lovers. It still boggles my mind that I waited until 2010 to finally go to Sasquatch for the first time when I've been drooling over the lineup since 2008.
Anyways, I am looking forward to another fantastic Sasquatch and can't wait to meet you all. I'm sure it will be as memorable for me as it was last year...maybe even better
PS. Congrats Mr. Fox for your moderator status!

Yeah, I know, I've read all of your posts. That was more me pointing out that point being by far the longest you've ever written. And I don't have consistent internet use during the day, so the internet phone is pretty dandy.
And to briefly summarize my opinion of the lineup, the headliners are weak, but who cares? There are some really big names in the dance tent/late night who will be playing opposite, and the undercard, as usual, is stacked. If the festival was non-camping, and located in Miami, I wouldn't buy a ticket.

Hahaha, I haven't noticed the ban hammer button yet.
Peatrick, you know me. I've been excited about this lineup since last June. I love finding new favorites every year. Besides my first year in 2006 I have never really come to watch the headliners. People put too much stock in the last hour of a 12 hour day. There is way more to see and do, and that is why I love it. Of course these days I have the added bonus of meeting a group of people from all over the continent, and that is a huge part of it for me now.

I feel this way. It is beyond my grasp that I can't get anyone to just listen to an album in its entirety. There is so much to be had but they won't do the (fun) work. Music is just so amazing.
I love Sasquatch. I love it. It is the one time of year I throw all guilt or anger or bad feelings of any kind out the window. The rest of the world doesn't exist and the view in my front yard is miles of sky and rocks and awesome. My neighbors are all my friends. I love the place, the sense of community, the party, and the music. It is a celebration of life with all of my favorite things. I was a little disappointed by the lineup at first, mostly just because the headliners don't really seem that big and I guess I was expecting something different for the big 10 year bash. But, like many, when I really sat down and looked at it I am totally fucking stoked. Seeing the Soft Bulletin is going to be fucking amazing. I love Sleigh Bells and Major Lazer. I am sexually stoked to see Guided By Voices. Also others but I don't have the lineup in front of me. And I know I am going to hear some amazing new music. And now, thanks to this board, I am going to get to experience it with even more rad people.
So, in short, FUCK YEAH SASQUATCH.

I so agree with this thread!!! I still hate the headliners but it wasn't until the next day that I fell in love with the lineup. When on last.fm, it showed all the most played bands that I truly was aww struck by the depth toward the bottom. I've seen DCFC x5, MM & FLAMING FUCKING LIPS x4, Local Natives x3, Wilco, Cold War Kids, Chromeo, Yeasayer, Beach House & Deerhunter x2, !!!, The Antlers and Wye Oak. But I'm so ready to see them all at Sasquatch again!!!!

I haven't had a stable internet connection to use since the lineup came out but I am still as stoked about it as I was the day it came out. Sure there are quite a few bands I fucking love and are going to rage my face off to but the beauty of sasquatch for me is the introduction of new music and having 3 months to dig deep into discography's and find new favorite bands.
I am also with you on it going in one ear and out the other. When you passed me your phone with the lineup on it at the party I was like "ok cool...bassnectar, skrillex and modest mouse" and kind of shrugged the rest off. I think part of that was having fun reading and replying to all the comments on my ustream..and being rather intoxicated. I finally have read it enough times that it has sank it, and as usual it is fucking amazing. I will never expect anything but the best from samsquantch.

Like most others, I was left completely underwhelmed by the line-up announcement. With all the rumors and speculation before the announcement I think I got my hopes up for bands like Arcade Fire and the Pixies, and my undercard wish list was mostly absent from the sheet, so I felt disappointed. But then I remembered music festivals such as this are meant for experiencing music/bands that you might not otherwise get to see. I just have to do my homework. I've been on the case ever since Sunday night, and have already discovered a few new bands that I'm really looking forward to see. This process will continue until I depart for the Gorge in May, and I'm really looking forward to the adventure into new music! I went through a similar thing last year, and it turned out to be my favorite year at Sasquatch yet. Let's see if 2011 can beat it!
