It is good stuff right there. It makes me think of my trip to Ireland and strangeness of the "east". There is an underlying paralysis in the streets of Dublin almost 100 years later.

I feel like it's a cliche to be an Ireland-phile (which is my made up word for people obsessed with Ireland) but while I'm not at all aware of the specifics of my heritage, my last name is Riley, so I feel justified. But anyway I haven't been to Ireland but have always wanted to go, and Irish authors are the best.

I've never read Robin Hobb, but I remember trying to read Eddings and those old books are so chock full of cliche that I just can't get through them. And there's nothing stylistically to keep you going either. Blah.

The Ender books were just okay after Ender's Game, but I haven't read Ender's Shadow and that series.

Ender's Shadow is well worth reading, as well as Shadow of the Hegemon. I liked them better than most of the Ender books.

Currently reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King. It's fucking amazing. This is the first Stephen King book I've ever read. I kinda thought he only wrote horror... But I am engrossed.

11/22/63 is a hell of a good read. I was looking forward to it for like nine months and then I tore through it in like a week.

It was cool to go back to Derry and revisit some of those characters, however briefly.

Re-reading this thread because weenie reminded me of it. I'm tempted to delete all of the posts where JWW and I are talking about fantasy books, but in the immortal words of Steve Zissou, "I did those things, I said those things. I can live with that." or whatever.

Also, funny to note that HG asked me to write his paper on J. Alfred Prufrock this weekend, even though it's clearly one of your favorites, dude. One of my favorites too.

Also also, weenie reads on her iphone, which is fucking insane.

Oh and Romie and I had a Dubliners moment over the weekend! Seriously weird how many times this thread came up at Sasquatch.

I'm listening to Lord of the Rings on audiobook and the best part is the actor sings the songs and he's really good in an old British man kind of way. Lord of the Rings is one of the most incredible achievements of the 20th century, BTW

I'm embarrassed 'cause it's SO young adult. But after reading Hunger Games I looked around for similar shit and found this series called "Uglies"? It's a dystopian future where everybody gets surgery to be pretty but also there's a dark secret! ::) It's pretty brain-candy-y. I'm also listening to this really fun series called "The Dresden Files" which are like noir detective novels only the main character is a wizard. And it's narrated by Spike from Buffy which is so much fun. They're really enjoyable.

Cue Know calling me a virgin.
