Best of the Year (It's not what you think)
« Thread Started on Dec 20, 2010, 11:15am »

Fuck Kanye and fuck Vampire Weekend and fuck 2010 music. It's time to give the real (and deserved) props not to those who make music, but to those who post about music (and longboards). Many of us perhaps check in with this site more regularly than your Pitchforks and say your email because what started as simple avoiding and slight passive aggresiveness has resulted in missing other non I-am-trying-to-avoid-you-type-emails which has in turn resulted in a new-era sort of "techno social anxiety" on a Pavlovian scale where anything ending with mail.com or facebook has you on the floor with your knees tucked under your trembling chin and calling out for the very same "mommy!" you were passive agraessively avoiding in the first place, right? While there have been many times I have seemed quite the opposite of sunshine (moon opaque?) and gone on rants about offensive comments, racial slurs, sexist comments, and the like (I know, whats my deal?), I just want to say that at the end of the day I really enjoy this board and you all. As Gramma has pointed out, "Know your dealer!", I mean "It's the internet, relax". By that I mean, "relax after I have un-relaxed on you".

Here's some of the most memorable moments of the year (please feel free to quote posts if you are super ambitious)

-biff
-R.I.P peacefulchick
-"The halloween, I guess" thread, honerable mentions to the "Longboarding" thread
-Dani Darko becomes "Snorlax"
-Our 1000 posters (congrats guys!!!!)
-"You only wish you were as good as guessing line ups as me!"
-raise a glass to the drunk posts!!!
-"A Record A Day"
-Lawnchairs
-That one time the board crashed and we all cried (right?)
-One of our very own became a Mod

Keep adding your favs, and even make up a catagory like "Best Drunk Post", but most of all, lets keep this place [image] !

Ayyyy! Lots of first rate internettin' has been going down at this board, and it just keeps getting better. I'm an old hand when it comes to message boards - I know many of us are - but I don't think I've ever seen a board that balances respect and spleen-venting so well without being almost entirely inactive. We got a good group of folks that just keeps getting bigger and weirder.

I've gotten a lot of support and really positive feedback about A Record a Day, and that is a really cool feeling. For something as indulgent and inconsequential as it is, you guys make it feel really rewarding.

'Halloween, I guess...' was golden, and not only because it made a star our of Snorlax. Also, Snorlax, props (and thank you) for making a place for yourself here; few women have had the resolve or the desire to do that, and none with such class (thunderroad, you should speak up more often - I also think you are pretty great).

Kudos to Gunther for being the Kermit the Frog to our Muppet Theatre. Someone has to wear the Sherriff's badge.

It's only December and this joint is already jumpin'. It's gonna get crazy once the lineup is announced (SOON!), and it will be an all-out party by the time Memorial Day gets here. It's going to be one hell of a Sasquatch this year and I just can't wait to party like savages alongside each of you and 25,000 other people.

Funny how you relate this to the muppets because I always think of you and I8 this way:

Also, who can forget "Does that get your dick sucked a lot?"

And that guy way back at the beginning of the year who posted a lineup that none of us believed, then it turned out to be true.

"Also, who can forget "Does that get your dick sucked a lot?""

I try, but it seems to appear in every thread, even in "Hotels".

Along those same lines, who can forget that Lumpy admitted that he's never had his dick sucked?

Wait, it tops the list until Lumpy sees this and puts out some awkward kinda post with examples about how that is in no way actually true. Handcuffed!

Oh shit, I was looking for the guy who gave us that totally excellent schedule, it's Doumak! We may have had our disagreements, but that thing was solid. I actually kinda remember him mentioning this in the Halloween thread, if I'm not mistaken there was also mention of discovering Portugal, the Man for us all? And something about thanking him later or something about not discovering Portugal, the Man for all of us in the future. ?

HG and I have been nice to each other for a freakishly long 2 weeks or something. Maybe we reached a level of zen only achieved by joining the exclusive 1000 post club? MAYBE NOT! >:D

I've been meaning to comb through the last twelve months of this board and make a compendium of all the brutal and dismissive things you all said to me when I was the new guy. A lot of you - Peatrick and I8, obviously, but also stamper, Sword and many others - were more aggressive with me than I think I've seen since.

It was an uphill battle to get even a little bit of respect out of you guys. I don't hold grudges, though, especially since I think it is well documented that I can hand out a spanking or two myself. The adversarial nature of a lot of our conversations keeps this place interesting while providing a fantastic playground for words and weeding out the chumps, and so rarely does one of us stoop to being excessively crass or hateful.

The one unfortunate casualty seems to have been I8, who seems to have sought greener pastures when he realized that I've got him beat when it comes to bile while managing to be much more eloquent.

If I wasn't a moderator, most of those brutal and dismissive comments would've been from me.
